Better Than Friday - 227
Good evening everyone, it was a nice day that turned into a sad one after hearing the news in item #5.
Wishing you well, thank you very much for your continued support. Stay safe.
1. Book to read: Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Things by Lafcadio Hearn (Paid Link)
Thanks very much to Anthony Best for bringing this awesome looking edition of Japanese 'Weird Tales' to my attention.
2. William Gass's Advice For Writers
Some gems in here.
Nobody like Mark E. Smith and The Fall.
1:19 - so good.
4. Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick interview on Merv Griffin
A collision of worlds.
One of the most awkward things I've ever seen.
5. Rest in Peace, John Juan Mendez (Silent Servant)
Terrible, terrible news out of Los Angeles today.
A neighbor of an old friend, and someone who I've seen multiple times at terrific shows, has passed away tragically, along with his partner Simone Ling and another great musician, Luis Vasquez (The Soft Moon).
Juan was an outstanding DJ.
I never knew him personally, but we had mutual friends.
He seemed like a great guy.
Awful. Very sad.

Sad to hear about Silent Servant. I heard him play at a club in my hometown years ago and loved his musical aesthetic. He started off with some obscure dark wave record which no one was expecting. It really set the mood. Wish you a great weekend.
