Better Than Friday - 206

Good Saturday morning everyone, work got away from me yesterday.

But at the last minute, I was sent something outrageously cool (#2) by a viewer known only as Boris, many thanks to him.

Thanks very much for your continued support.

1. Book I've been meaning to read for years - Thomas the Obscure by Maurice Blanchot

A short, proto-existentialist novel that, from the sounds of it, seemed to break all the rules and pushed the medium forward.

2. Story of the Eye original manuscript owned by the 81 year old Prince Stanislas Klossowski de Rola, aka Prince Stache, who hung out with the Rolling Stones, Brian Jones, and the Beatles, and whose father was the painter Balthus, whose uncle was Pierre Klossowki, and whose mother Antoinette de Watteville was a model for Balthus. Georges Bataille had a crush on her.

Well, if that's not one of the most unbelievable things I've ever seen...

The Original Manuscript for Story of the Eye. On Tik Tok no less.

3. Sorcerer by William Friedkin (RIP)

In the middle of watching this and I already love it.

Crazy that I've never seen it until now...A terrific, visceral film. Very Herzogian.

All the practical explosions look amazing.

4. Apparently there are poisonous birds 😬

5. Bird's Lament by Moondog

An elegy for Charlie Parker.

Sax Pax for a Sax is a tremendous album.

An ominous piece of coral

“Managua!” “I can’t go to Managua!” Something like that.

“Sorcerer,” my favorite movie ever. Roy Scheider before plastic surgery. Like two different movies welded into one. My brother and I, as children, would periodically re-enact the “what’s in the truck” scene. Personally, I don’t see it as a remake of “Wages of Fear,” but informed by it. That said, I really don’t know.

According to William Friedkin, during the filming of Sorcerer approximately fifty people "had to leave the film for either injury or gangrene," as well as food poisoning and malaria. Blimey.

Man I believe it.

Sorcerer is such a great film, overshadowed by the release of Star Wars that very same year. Based on the earlier film, “Wages of Fear”, which is an absolute masterpiece in itself.

I saw Sorcerer in the theater in 77. Soundtrack by the incomparable Tangerine Dream.
