Better Than Friday - 176
Goood evening everyone, hope you have a nice weekend.
Just finished shooting a review of the deeply strange and pioneering work of pre-modernism 'Mysteries' by Knut Hamsun.
1. Book on my shelf - James Wood's "Upstate"
A gift from a kind fan. This author wrote the introduction to my copy of Mysteries.
James Wood is a critic for the New Yorker turned novelist.
This is about a family stuck in an upstate New York snowstorm dealing with a daughter's depression. It begs the question "Can happiness be learned?"
I'm curious about Wood's answer. I wonder what Schopenhauer would say.
Haunting piece.
It's from a fellow named Steven R. Smith, the same fellow who does the fantastic noise project Ulaan Khol.
With Hala Strana he seems to incorporate a lot of Eastern European influences. Gorgeous.
Very cool. A recommendation from friend and patron Rob, thanks man!
4. Oldboy fight scene (violent)
17 takes over the course of 3 days. Love that smile.
An unbelievable film. Brutal Shakespearean revenge tale.
Wook's masterpiece.
THIS...IS AN EX-PARROT

Today's NY Times Book Review has an essay on the role of food in the writing of Cormac McCarthy.
“I wanted to be a lumberjack!”
Oldboy is certainly one of the greatest films ever made
