Joined your Patreon to hear this review. Love how the vibe is a little different from yr public reviews--more thinking out loud. Wittkop reads _Lolita_ and says "Hold my cognac." Or in this case, "Hold these purging body fluids." The elegant justification of terrible things. Thank you!
this was one of my favs this yr too lol
Well, that was a read. Thank you for this rec Cliff
Do it! Write her biography. I can't wait to read something by YOU...
BTW, Wallace's The Broom of the System is a short (comparatively!), funny, imaginative, wild romp that's quite readable for those who (like me) don't think they have time or patience for Infinite Jest.
Well, that got my attention!: I went to watch the interview with Wittkop, and the interviewer starts by asking her whether it's true that, as Jérôme Garcin relates, that when he came to visit her in Frankfurt, she answered the door by saying "Welcome to the home of the granddaughter of Donatien [the Marquis de Sade]"! She explains that she admires his philosophy, that she was raised in the spirit of the materialistic philosophy of the 18th century ... Now I have to listen to the whole thing!
''Consider cremation'', ha that made me chuckle. Guess I'll have to check this book out then.
Happy Halloween Clifford.
