Disagreeable Tales by Léon Bloy (Patron-Only Early Access/Ad-Free)

Thirty nasty parables by a fin de siècle master of the insult who called himself "the ungrateful beggar".

One of the strangest authors in literary history I've had the pleasure (?) of reading.

As soon as you mentioned Bloy took a hard Catholic turn later in life, Huysmans came immediately to mind; was not surprised to learn that they were friends. Will definitely give this a read. Also, can offer a medial recommendation for 'Les Diaboliques' -- although no relation to the film, based on a contemporary thriller by Boileau-Narcejac (the same duo penned the novel adapted for 'Vertigo.')
