I believe you should give Neil Gaiman second chance, imo he is more than it seems.

So refreshing to hear that someone else doesn't care either for Margaret Atwood or Stephen King (either admission constituting blasphemy in some circle or other)! I read Atwood's Surfacing decades ago, and I can summarize it as follows: men (whom Atwood clearly despises) are furry, insensitive, competitive, nonfeeling, nonthinking, petty animals, so out of touch with women's attunement to their environment and nature. And Americans are even worse! A depressing downer of a book, and the prose isn't very good either, though the heroine's descent into madness is harrowing and done well. I also have Atwood's The Edible Woman, and haven't touched it—I feel certain that I would find it ... (wait for it) ... indigestible (apologies)! Of King, I've read only the collection that contained "The Body" (the source of the film Stand by Me). I thought he was a poor stylist (again, with apologies). Perhaps I should go back and read something else of his, but there are too many other books that I want to read. Ray Bradbury's collection Dandelion Wine was enjoyable, although also imbued with some sentimental small-town nostalgia. I liked though the way certain characters reappeared in some stories, rather than each story being completely independent. I also liked Fahrenheit 451 (the 60s' mod film is worth seeing too, if dated). Georges Delerue was a magnificent composer. He did the soundtrack for one of my all-time favorite movies, Truffaut's Jules and Jim (Truffaut's greatest—I'm sure I've seen it 10 times or more). Incomparable, magnificent music. Speaking of works about carnivals—I highly recommend the terrific and atmospheric British film, Vampire Circus, of 1972! It has some breathtaking scenes of carnival performers airborne. Delicious! Could you tell us more about that Chinese coffee? What kind was it, and where can we get it? Thanks in advance!
