Good evening everyone, snowy as hell here.
Hope ya'll are stayin warm.
1. The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire
I'd really like to get an understanding of this period of history.
Edward Gibbon's six-volume History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire (1776-88) is among the most magnificent and ambitious narratives in European literature. Its subject is the fate of one of the world's greatest civilizations over thirteen centuries - its rulers, wars and society, and the events that led to its disastrous collapse. Here, in volumes three and four, Gibbon vividly recounts the waves of barbarian invaders under commanders such as Alaric and Attila, who overran and eventually destroyed the West. He then turns his gaze to events in the East, where even the achievements of the Byzantine emperor Justinian and the campaigns of the brilliant military leader Belisarius could not conceal the fundamental weaknesses of their empire.

Great film.
4. Listen to any radio station around the world
I recommend KMHD 89.1 in Portland.
5. Fantastic track that evokes some time I spent in Greenpoint one winter when I discovered it.
Alternatively, try the Thom Yorke version.
(ready to run back to southern climates)

I'm almost done with "Can't Get You out of My Head"--great film. And great timing too with the release of "Judas and the Black Messiah".
There is a highly-rated audiobook version of "Decline and Fall..." It's just...*checks screen*...126 HOURS LONG!!!!
Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire is gorgeous. Seen Iggy Pop’s essay Caesar Lives?
I absolutely have. Great on so many levels.
Definitely get on The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. It's stunning as both a voluminous and incisive historical study and an amazingly composed, elegant retelling of one of history's great narratives.
I want to read it but I fear it might get a bit dry in the long run. How is it to read? Is he as good a writer as he is an historian? I’ve had a few too many bad experiences with other history books.
Radio Garden, wow.
