Better Than Friday - 73 - Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone.

Here's to overshooting resolutions and champagne headaches.

But sincerely, thank you for your support.

You made 2020 far more bearable than it could've been.

1. Time to finally get to it - Moby Dick

It's so overdue. A kind patron sent me this awesome looking Norton Critical Edition above. Can't wait.

So Melville wrote of his masterpiece, one of the greatest works of imagination in literary history. In part, Moby-Dick is the story of an eerily compelling madman pursuing an unholy war against a creature as vast and dangerous and unknowable as the sea itself. But more than just a novel of adventure, more than an encyclopaedia of whaling lore and legend, the book can be seen as part of its author's lifelong meditation on America. Written with wonderfully redemptive humour, Moby-Dick is also a profound inquiry into character, faith, and the nature of perception.

This edition of Moby-Dick, which reproduces the definitive text of the novel, includes invaluable explanatory notes, along with maps, illustrations, and a glossary of nautical terms.

2. Leave it to Zizek

"We still dream of a return to old normality the way we knew it"

Thinking about this frequently.

3. Un Homme et une femme

Baaaa....daaaaa.....baaaa...bwabuhdabuhdup....bwabuhdabuhdup.

I have had this stuck in my head for years.

4. This is Dope and I want it

I need more Memento Moris around the house.

5. Creating Crypto

Justin Murphy came up with the idea of creating a social token cryptocurrency to distribute among his patrons. I thought that was brilliant.

I don't know how to do this yet - anybody out there who does?

Went out to Astoria Oregon not long ago. I love that town.

My husband and youngest daughter were born in Astoria. We lived there in the 90's with a view of the river from our home. I enjoyed seeing the photo!

Happy New Year to you Cliff. I look forward to hearing your insight on Moby Dick! I’ve never read anything quite like it. Be prepared: he uses the word “sperm” a lot.

I only got to Moby Dick a few months ago. It’s as good as they say... Melville is as good of a writer as they come. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
