Better Than Friday - 60
Hello everyone, what a boring time in history, right?
Thanks for the support, hope you have a relaxing weekend.
1. The Island of Doctor Death and Other Stories and Other Stories
But Gene Wolfe has been recommended several times, so I guess I should give him a shot.
A superb collection of science fiction and fantasy stories, The Island of Doctor Death and Other Stories and Other Stories is a book that transcends all genre definitions. The stories within are mined with depth charges, explosions of meaning and illumination that will keep you thinking and feeling long after you have finished reading.
2. Fox Used Books on Instagram @foxusedbooks
Wonderful selection of stuff on here (if you're fast enough to grab it - they go quick!)
3. One of the scariest short stories I've ever read
would be 'Wood' from Robert Aickman's collection 'Compulsory Games'.
It's difficult to describe exactly what makes the story so frightening, but there's something pure about the horror in that one.
Coincidentally NYRB was posting about it today as well.
4. I'm not sure I'd ever listened to Satellite of Love by Lou Reed all the way through...
And I discovered that the last part, the harmony and falsetto vocals, is like - Beyond perfection.
5. The eerie stop-motion world of The Brothers Quay
There's nothing like the films of the Quay Brothers. Disturbing but incredible.
I still need to read 'Street of Crocodiles' by Bruno Schulz
There are a lot of crow feathers lying around my neighborhood, so somebody made this.

Nice!!!
when is another book review coming? i cant wait for more wonderful recommendations!!!!!'
I'm unsure of the exact dates but thanks so much, trying to get them out as fast as possible :)
The Book of the New Sun is amazing, but I haven't read his short fiction yet! (Wolfe recommended Clarke Ashton Smith's short stories and I fell in love instantly.)
Gene Wolfe is my favorite author so I am curious and a little nervous to see what you think since his books are definitely different than what is typically reviewed on the channel. After finishing The Book of the New Sun I immediately picked it back up and read it again...and then I read it again...three times in a year and I uncovered new layers each time. His short stories are good too, though, and provide a bite-sized taste without the long commitment that some of his other works require.
