Better Than Friday - 8
Happy October everyone.
What's your favorite book/author for the Season of the Witch?
1. Book in the Pipeline - Karl Ove Knausgård - My Struggle Volume 2
So far I'm really enjoying this.
Though it's long, it's an easy read, and filled with innumerable insights.
It really is an extremely impressive accomplishment, if just for his attention to detail through his memory of events.
I kept hearing about Volume 2 specifically for the last few years, and it seems to be paying off. The tone is even darker than the first.
For those who have read, I just finished the part about him getting drunk and cutting his face.
Outrageous.
2. How I'm Getting In The October Mood
The Soundtrack from The Company of Wolves
This is a British Horror/Fantasy film directed by Neil Jordan, who did Interview with the Vampire, based on the short story by Angela Carter.
A strange, silly, eerie film, with a great score, and a truly grotesque wolf transformation, which features the snout of a wolf emerging from the mouth of a man. Unforgettable.
3. The Last Amazing Band I Heard
The Amazing Snakeheads.
They made one album.
Dale Barclay, the lead singer, died from brain cancer at 32 last year.
Life is merciless.
4. A New Word I'll Be Employing
Wiseacre - a person with an affectation of wisdom or knowledge, regarded with scorn or irritation by others; a know-it-all.
5. The Cult That Made Your Grandmother's Fine Silverware
The Oneida community was a perfectionist, communist and polyamorous cult in New York that's responsible for making the Oneida silverware.

I have in my collection a biography by Knausgård on Edvard Munch. I've also been quite interested in his multi-volume memoir, so I'm glad to see you're enjoying it. Can't wait to delve into the Munch biography before the year's end and begin MY STRUGGLE next year (no unfortunate pun intended).
Having finished all six volumes of MY STRUGGLE, I found volume one and two to be the strongest volumes. Also, SPRING (the third book of his Seasons Quartet) is magnificent. He recounts his wife's mental illness and breakdown with brilliant acuity.
My favorite books to read for this season of the witch are 3 of Stephen King's novels: The Shining, Christine and Carrie. Honorable mention goes to CUJO. I am still trying to finish CUJO for the last 3 years. Been so busy but hopefully by the end of this year I will be done with it. Horror film would Friday the 13th series(1,2,3,5,6 ) Nightmare on Elm Street 1984, Parts 2,3,4 and Halloween 1978, Halloween 2 Halloween 4. Great review this week. Have a great weekend!
