Better Than Friday - 348

Happy Fourth of July y'all, hope those of you stateside get a decent amount of sleep through the weekend's intermittent explosions.

Currently reading Michael Ondaatje's 'Coming Through Slaughter' (Paid Link), a work of Historical Fiction about Buddy Bolden, the legendary Jazz cornetist who helped form Jazz in New Orleans - Enjoying it so far.

Thank you so much for your continued support.

  1. Book to read: The Right to Oblivion: Privacy and the Good Life by Lowry Pressly
A recommendation from friend and patron Benjamin - seems important.

  2. Lee Hazlewood - My Autumn's Done Come
Now that man had a voice.

  3. "Please, Kill Mr. Kinski"
Director David Schmoeller tells us about the time when his producer offered to kill Klaus Kinski. This was after the incident with Werner Herzog in the Jungle filming Fitzcarraldo where the local native tribe offered to kill Kinski.

  4. James Hoffmann discovers Deep Fried Coffee
    "I'm...uncomfortable with this."

  5. When I was young, this music video freaked me out

    Still does.

Recently learned that this 'Cellantani' pasta from the Barilla company was named in honor of Adriano Celentano - The actor/musician who made the American English Gibberish song, who was nicknamed "Il Mollegiatto", meaning: "The Springy One".
I'll never be able to eat it again without that song in my head.

I was only thinking recently that I haven't seen the Lullaby video in years but forgot to revisit it. Beautiful song, pure horror of a video.

I showed Please Kill Mr Kinski at the 1999 Chicago Underground Film Festival. I didn’t realize it was on YouTube. And I bought a copy of Coming Through Slaughter last year but i haven’t read it yet. I guess now is the time.
