Great review. Your way of analyzing stories and explaining a story's philosophy is unlike any other reviewer in YouTube (props to you my friend). If you wanna keep going with Latin American literature, I strongly suggest Julio Cortázar's, Una Noche Boca Arriba (don't know the title in english) or anything by him.
I never thought about it, but you may be on to something when you say that the short story is a good vehicle for magical realism. I keep on trying to think of examples, and guys like Borges and Kafka come up, but Poe keeps coming up in my mind for some reason. Any Poe reviews in the works?
Thank you for this. I currently received Clarice Lispector’s enormous book of short stories, looking forward to diving into it this year. Have you read anything by her?
Yes, I LOVE Clarice, I read 'The Passion According to G.H' and it was one of the greatest depictions of inner monologue I've ever come across. If you find some favorites in the collection please let me know!
Thanks for watching and for the recs!
Excellent review Cliff. On the topic of One Hundred Years of Solitude, I have recently just finished it and I can say it was truly one of the most profound reads I've come across in my relatively short "reading career". The hour after putting the book down was like a trance. The book had me in complete deep thought. Few pieces of art have touched me as that novel did. While it does get political, it is far more of a human story than a political one, so I wouldn't let that deter you. That's enough of a spiel from me. Thank you again for another wonderful year of reviews. I wish you all the best going into the New Year!
Wishing you the best too, what a great feeling after reading a book. Noted, I'll read as soon as I can.
Every week, you change this 18 year old's life. Thank you for a wonderful year. I hope I can return the favor by reading, reading, reading, reading, as Herzog says.
That's all I ask my friend - Thrilled to hear you're getting so much out of it.
Happy new year to you, Cliff! I think I read about 25-30 books this year, which I'm happy about. Gonna try to read more in 2018, but we'll see. Wish you all the best, and I'm excited for reviews to come.
You too Per! Fuck it, let's do FIFTY. You down?
