Better Than Friday - 341

Hello friends, Dispatches review is being edited this weekend - coming your way asap.
It will be the last review from the Florida headquarters.

I'll be reporting from the deep south in Natchez MS (or on the road) until we reach our final destination (still tbd). Content will be slower for a bit as we're transitioning, thanks for your patience.

Wishing y'all a great weekend, and thank you so much for your continued support.

1. Book to read: Mani: Travels in the Southern Peloponnese by Patrick Leigh Fermor (Paid Link)
Disclosure the publisher NYRB sometimes sends me free books for review
Writings about travels in Greece by a fascinating author who once kidnapped a Nazi general, and was referred to by a BBC journalist as "a cross between Indiana Jones, James Bond and Graham Greene". Man, this guy was something else.
Found out about this one via Leaf by Leaf with his best books he read in 2025 video.

2. Tom Wolfe on Hunter S. Thompson
Apparently the guy liked bananas more than Thomas Pynchon.

3. Gary Oldman in "Leon: The Professional" directed by Luc Besson (Graphic)
Of all the evil-y evil lunatics in cinema, Gary Oldman stands out as the corrupt DEA agent Norman Stansfield.

4. "Listening to Whitehouse for the first time"
Found this one from Chris Zeischegg. This dude @thatkidzayy gets it.

5. Euphoria by The Holy Modal Rounders

Now and then this song returns to get stuck in my head. Eu-PHOR-ia, ia, ia.
