Better Than Friday - 337
Hello friends, happy first day of Spring.
Currently reading Winter Light by Douglas J. Penick, one of the translators of one of my favorites of 2024, A Terrace in Rome by Pascal Quignard.
Winter Light is a reflection on old age through an examination of accomplishments made by interesting artists in their later years. Among those included are Titian, Leoš Janáček, Claude Monet, and Jean Rhys.
Wishing you a great weekend and thank you so much for your continued support.
Book to read: The Lost Estate (Le Grand Meulnes) by Alan-Fournier (Paid Link)
A mysterious coming-of-age story that had a big influence on a book I'm slowly reading at the moment, 'The Magus' by John Fowles. Also, I discovered via Wikipedia, it's the only book that accompanies Sal Paradise during his travels in Kerouac's "On The Road".
Rob Doyle’s Infatuation with Islamic Philosophy/Mysticism
Doyle has got me curious. I've gotta pick up Ibn ’Arabī and Henry Corbin.Kenneth Anger on Marjorie Cameron
Gradually uncovering the Jack Parsons -> Kenneth Anger connection.
No clue if there's anything to substantiate it, but that comment below the video about Howard Hughes murdering Jack Parsons is wild.Jim Jarmusch in the Criterion Closet
A guy who is always good for recommendations.
"I Knew Her Well" is a great (very dark) film.Nigel Thornberry’s Patented Seal Call
Somebody recently left a comment describing me as a mixture of Arthur Shelby from Peaky Blinders and Nigel Thornberry. I was not displeased when this was the first clip of Nigel (voiced by Tim Curry) that I came across.
Briefly visited Naples FL.
Quite the Banyans they have.

Cheers Cliff. I just finished a week in Paris. Europe is a dream, though I’m very busy. Your weekly posts are always great, but they’re especially pleasant while I’m abroad.
Thanks very much for your kind words man, glad to hear you're enjoying your time in Europe! Sounds like a fantastic trip.
I hope you’re enjoying The Magus. One of my 5 favourites
