Hi there ya'll, how goes it?
Finishing up the edit of my review of Freud's "Civilization and its Discontents".
I'll post it asap, hope you enjoy.
Wishing you a nice weekend. I'm truly grateful for your support, thank you very much.
1. Book to read: New Thomas Pynchon Novel, "Shadow Ticket" (Paid Link)
New forthcoming Thomas Pynchon novel. Penguin, the publisher, informs us that it's a prohibition-era story about a private detective seeking out a cheese heiress.
Full synopsis here on Penguin's website.
2. Freud in Films
A couple of interesting, and very different, cinematic renderings of Sigmund Freud.
Neither film is perfect, but it's fascinating to me to see how the actors portrayed him.
"A Dangerous Method" directed by David Cronenberg
A film about the relationship between Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung.
Viggo Mortensen plays a pompous but entertaining version of Freud.
"Freud's Last Session" directed by Matthew Brown
Based on a play by Mark St. Germain, this film imagines a meeting between C.S. Lewis and Freud during the Blitz in London.
Anthony Hopkins plays a somber, good-humored but deeply disillusioned Freud on the verge of death from cancer.
3. Alan Moore on how to be a writer
A bit of a silly video but I appreciated his claim that writing evolved from Paleolithic shamanism.
4. Rene Girard - Violence and Religion
Compelling lecture.
I have Girard's Violence and the Sacred on my shelf, looking forward to reading it.
Hadn't heard this until recently. Really loving it.
Impressive

John Huston made an okayish, if very dated, Freud biopic with Montgomery Clift—Freud: The Secret Passion (1962). I thought Vigo made a superb cameo as Freud in a less than superb film.
I saw that Huston made one, though I didn't know Clift was in it, might check it out, thanks for the info. Agreed regarding Vigo.
Doing great. On my way home from the most killer darkwave event with She Past Away, Ducttape and Twin Noir.
Nice! Hope it was terrific.
