Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs (Patron-Only / Early Access)
Unparalleled dark satirical lunacy from one of History's greatest experimental authors.

Probably the book that started me down the path of obscure deviant literature. I would recommend “You Can’t Win” by Jack Black; one of Burroughs favorite novels of which he claims his book “Junky” was solely derived from. This book is a true story set around late 19th century to early 20th century, it’s about the making of a criminal and the criminals folly. In the book, it goes over the early American hobo jungles, opium addiction, life in jail, and the absolutely unorganized bureaucratic system of the time. Probably the book that shaped Burroughs outlaw persona.
I just finished reading The Western Lands again, which I regard as Burroughs' masterpiece. Much like Naked Lunch, it's full of magical, twisted and hilarious vignettes, but its range and erudition (especially of ancient religions/mysticism) is much broader than in his first novel.
Thanks for your insight, I've got that one on the shelf - can't wait to get to it.
Great review! I just finished Infinite Jest and I never took in how much that book must have been influenced by Naked Lunch- thematically, emotionally, viscerally. The interplay between personal addiction and politics in a world gone mad.
Thanks very much! Interesting, I never made that connection the first time I read IF, thanks for noting that. I'll be thinking about that if I reread it.
Great review. I am such a Burroughs junky, so seeing this notification made my evening. I agree, frighteningly prescient and blisteringly funny. Eat it, America, indeed.
Thanks very much - Glad to hear it man!
I’m watching a film based on a Burroughs book called Queer staring Daniel Craig pretty good film. I need to read some of his work. Naked Lunch may be a good starting point for me.
I haven’t been this excited in a long time. If you get time go to the Bob Rauschenberg gallery in Fort Myers, there’s a Burroughs exhibit on right now. The manager of the Gallery, Jade Dellinger, is a fantastic individual and he’ll give you tons of beautiful information. Let him know I sent you!
Thank you very much Kristopher - That's very cool, thank you for notifying me about it. If I'm able to make it I shall and I'll mention you sent me.
