Better Than Friday - 285
Good evening ya'll, how's it shakin?
Working on the next reviews from out of town while catching up with family in Natchez MS.
Storm's rolling in. Just got the first big crack of lightning.
Among several other books, I'm reading the completely psychotic Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs and loving it.
Hope you're having a nice evening and enjoying what you're reading.
Very grateful for your support, thank you so much.
1. Book to read: The Cantos by Ezra Pound (Paid Link)
Seth aka @wastemailinglist recently recommended that I read Ezra Pound.
2. The origin of the line "It was a dark and stormy night".
Turns out it was from a novel called "Paul Clifford" by Edward Bulwer-Lyton, about a highwayman during the French Revolution. Interesting! Wonder if it's good.
3. William S. Burroughs hanging out with Francis Bacon
I enjoyed Burroughs telling Bacon about 'mummies'.
4. Fight Club with Tom Waits' 'Goin Out West'
It really is one of the best films. David Fincher really nailed it.
5. Robert Bellfour - Hill Stomp
Recently came across this Mississippi-born blues guitarist. Good storm music.
I've been told this house, on the edge of the cliff in Natchez facing the Mississippi, was once home to a woman who held seances.

Robert Belfour is awesome.
Agreed, glad you enjoyed!
Hi Cliff! Seth did you a solid—Pound was a terrible guy but a great poet, albeit in a way very different from Yeats. And beware Bulwer-Lytton: he is proverbially terrible. Behold the remains of an amusing phenomenon: https://www.bulwer-lytton.com/.
P.S. I believe Seth was deeply impressed by Kenner’s *The Pound Era*, one of the great studies of modernism—you might find it equally useful. Hope you’ve been keeping well!
Naked Lunch! If that’ll be turned into a review, I’m very very excited. And if not, I’d still love to talk with you about it. Hope you stay safe through the storms. They’ll be down in my area around noon tomorrow I think. That Bacon/Burroughs video was a great revelation when I first saw it. Seeing all the connections between Burroughs and other artists I love is a bit crazy. He’s all over the place, and thank god for that.
Definitely going to be reviewing it, looking forward to discussing it as well. Thank you for the well wishes! Hope all was ok on your end as well. We were fine. Sadly was not the case for other regions. Yes Burroughs certainly was well-connected. Fascinating stuff.
