Better Than Friday - 275
Good evening everyone, hope you had a very nice Christmas, and wishing you a terrific New Year.
I just finished up B. R. Yeager's demented horror novel 'Negative Space' (Paid Link) and am gearing up for the 'Favorites Books of 2024' video...Much to come.
Hope you're reading something exceptional.
Have a great weekend.
The book on which Tarkovsky's brilliant "Stalker" was based.
Looking forward to reading very much. Thanks a bunch Daniel!
2. Patricia Highsmith French Interview
Had no idea she spoke French, very cool.
Subtitles lag but I thought I'd post since it's just a neat clip.
Great clip. Imagine living in that environment.
4. Porter Ricks - Nautical Dub
Really into this track, which I learned is of a genre called "Dub Techno".
5. James Dean "Safe Driving PSA"
One hell of a darkly prophetic moment.

Ugh, I love Porter Ricks so much <333 Biokinetics, this song's respective album, is a masterclass in dub techno. https://youtu.be/3dmFA0AH9iM If you want to explore more, the Chain Reaction label is very legendary for all the right reasons. That's the label Biokinetics was released on and they're home to many other legends' best music like Vainquer, Monolake, Fluxion, and my fave of the bunch Vladislav Delay. You can't go wrong with basically any of their releases :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chain_Reaction_(record_label)
the "echospace [detroit]" label is another amazing rabbit hole of dub techno to explore, headed by Rod Modell & Steven Hitchell. their work is often even more abstract and ambient than what you'll find on Chain Reaction, and it has accompanied many an evening reading session. This is my favorite by Modell :) https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/cv313/_satosphere-sessions/
I am currently reading this for a different, darker take on Christmas: The Dead of Winter by Sarah Clegg review – the dark side of Christmas https://www.theguardian.com/books/2024/dec/20/the-dead-of-winter-by-sarah-clegg-review-the-dark-side-of-christmas?CMP=share_btn_url
Reading As I Lay Dying this week. Looking forward to the Best of 2024 video!
