I stopped reading “Sexual Personae” at Chapter 11 for the simple reason: she’s exhausting. She’s the dinner guest that never shuts up, she’s the student always with her hand up, she’s the neighbor’s dog that barks all night. Here’s the problem: the dinner guest that talks too much usually has something to say worth considering. It’s just his idea is washed into the verbal deluge. And the student with the hand up usually is among the best students. And the dog that barks all night clearly is trying to communicate something - you just don’t get it: his barks have no context other than night. So, here’s the deal. I don’t have enough years left to outline and master what she’s saying. And I’m not sure I have the intellect. But I love that you are doing it. Where were you in law school when I needed a good “Civil Procedure” outline? You synthesize well, are modest and self-deprecating while carefully analyzing what you understand. And your understanding of Paglia is as close as I am ever going to get. And that’s good enough for me.
What a kind and thorough comment Rebecca, thank you very much for your thoughts and generous words. I hear ya. It's a LOT to take in. Though, for what it's worth, should the inclination return, I suspect you definitely have the intellect.
