Better Than Friday - 235

Que tal amiguetes, how goes?

Just shot the review for César Aira's 'The Musical Brain', (paid link)

which was a gift from friend and patron James V - Thanks man!

Coming your way soon.

Gearing up for the Sexual Personae series - the 1st video will be coming this week or the following.

Hope you have a terrific weekend and the weather's nice wherever you may be.

1. Philosopher to read - Heraclitus (paid link)

Apparently had a large impact on the thought of Bataille (and many others, as you can read in the description).

2. The Banana Cake Recipe my wife made for my 35th birthday

We put hazelnuts on top. Outrageously good. Cake pic below.

3. The Scarcely Believable Tragic History of Jackson C. Frank

Beautiful music, horrifically sad life.

4. Avant-garde Jazz musician Cecil Taylor on the piano

Look at this dude!!! Unbelievable.

Air is one of the coolest things I've listened to recently.

Cecil Taylor is the subject of the final story of Argentine author César Aira's collection 'The Musical Brain', the next review coming your way.

5. Laura

Beautifully shot Film-Noir from Otto Preminger, with the ill-fated Gene Tierney, co-starring a younger Vincent Price in a surprisingly 'normal' role (as a Southerner no less - ha)

Thanks very much to friend and patron Zero for the rec!

Happy Bday, Cliff! Last month I joined the 30th club, and I'll definitely try this recipe. Looks delicious!

I have an absurd number of Cecil Taylor records—I particularly treasure the FMP box of his Berlin recordings. He was especially magical with his Feel Trio, though: him, William Parker, and Tony Oxley. Winged Serpents, Celebrated Blazons, 2 Ts for a Lovely T: mind-blowing synergy in that group. But for the man solo, check out For Olim and The Willisau Concert. Unbelievable. His interviews are fabulous too. He didn’t like the label “jazz” for his music. He emphatically did like his champagne.

Spectacular...Oh man - I am looking up everything you mentioned. Thank you. Listening to the Willisau - So good.
