As a Philly girl, i know and have spent much time in an acme!
yay! I do accounting for update NY businesses... lots of Price Chopper and Big Y. No Acme
I’m not positive but like 80% sure that d20 with 2 twenties was from an old case , I remember it was 1920’s New York and the bbeg was like a leprechaun or something. And You all said you wanted it .
Brian and Mike, two iconic names in the actual play sphere, so great to hear them in a podcast together
The lack of self awareness to not think over an hour of Newsies counts as derailing your session is kinda wild
The hit dice submission is absolutely crazy… just reroll your 1s and 2s! It’s not that hard, guys
Why does Jake know everything about Newsies I’m crying
Trapp's got a voice for radio, man! I miss seeing him regularly. I love when Murph says NJ shit I can firmly nod along with
Unsurprisingly, Trapp was a fantastic guest judge! Arguing both for and against the same position was my favorite part 😂 y’all could have him back for anything, any time, and I’d be delighted!
If I had a planned session and my players performed 112 pages of Newsies I would become the joker
🤓☝️ uuuuummmm actually it’s pronounced “ack-a-me” not “acme”
Acme is in Ohio as well
The whole Sarah case was filled with so many red flags and not from Sarah. That's one of the few cases where i feel i need to know every single person's perspective at the table to even begin to judge.
Listening to DND court as a (near) forever DM is much like listening to stories abt siblings as the elder sibling that I am, in that I deeply sympathize with the DMs but ultimately find myself consistently ruling against them even when they’re not neccesarily on trial themselves out of a personally-informed understanding & very strongly held sense of the responsibility that comes with the role. Just as it is the job of a big sibling to take care of their little sibling(s), it is the job of the DM to take care of their players. It might not always be fair but unlike with sibling hood, DMS do ultimately choose to take on that position and imo it’s worth it for the joy of crafting a world your friends can genuinely exalt in telling a story with you and each other within/through
Though I do lightly agree with Murph that responsibility to end the bit sooner in the Newsies story was ultimately on the shoulders DM, I am DEEPLY sympathetic to her. I know I personally REALLY wouldn’t wanna be in her position with a party full of oblivious Musical theatre kids, as I know from experience how genuinely difficult to dissuade such folk from belting show tunes
Oh man I’m so split on the potions case— as a fellow dm & logophile, I’m deeply sympathetic to my comrades obvious attempt to provide a solvable word-based puzzle to their players. But…you can’t just say “haha you’re dead” no matter how dumb your players are being. Oof it’s tough though bc that was an EASY W for the pcs to the point of it almost feeling like an active unwillingness to engage with the DMs puzzle on Girths part. But…even so, he deserved a more respectful death. I say punish everyone
It’s Joseph Pulitzer, not Hearst! 😂
"Sell her hole" is the new "honor the cock"
For my campaigns I always have them roll their hit dice and if they get more than the average they get to keep it, if they get less than the average they get the average! Keeps it interesting and fair!
For the hiking D&D group, get yourselves a collapsible/foldable dice box. They can be made of neoprene mouse-pad materials and could easily fit amidst your hiking gear. But note, it does not guarantee more 20s than your usual dice box. Good luck with the grizzlies! And cheat dice just find their way into places! In a recent session, one of my players noticed the dice he was rolling didn't have a 1 on it. We checked it out and were all flabbergasted as I didn't recall ever getting any "cheat dice" at any point - 80ish% of the dice we use are mine as the forever-DM. We realized that the player that had recently left the group due to moving away - another fellow forever-DM until we met up and were able to play in each other's game (definitely miss him lol) - must have left it as one of the few DM tools he gifted to me as a farewell gift... and so he wouldn't have to pack too much stuff for his move lol. We now have isolated the die and colored in one of the 20s on it with black sharpie in case it finds its way back in the dice bag.
The second case they rule against the Dm for doing what they suggest the Dm do?
“that’s because you’re a fundamentally dishonest person” crying laughing lmao
Could have been quip for the newsies case - "New yOrks!"
Caldwell I believe it's The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time where the boy discovers his parents are getting divorced. Waiting for the notepad apology 🤎
Caldwell makes me feel sane. Imagine being from the south and running into an ACME out in the wild in the middle of no where in Jersey? I felt like I was laced.
Murph I get ya, growing up I didn't get the whole "Acme is a cartoon place that sells explosives" thing bc to me it was just a grocery store
Justice for the Newsies DM. Feel like there was a lapse in self awareness and consideration from the players. Watching your players perform a musical for thirty minutes when you're in the middle of a session, having spent your own free time prepping for an anniversary special, is the opposite of fun.
Yeah I think our dear justices are all musical theatre kids at heart and thus might not be aware of how genuinely difficult it is for those outside the community to assert a preference not to spend the hang listening to showtunes. It seems v possible to me that the DM DID attempt protest the bit and it just wasn’t done firmly enough. And that really sucks for the dm who I’m sure was trying really hard not to ruin her pcs fun but also ultimately DID care a lot as like you said, she put her own personal time and consideration into setting up this particularly special session. I can def see a situation where the only way to stop this happening would require responding more harshly and seriously than the DM felt comfy doing. While I personally have no problem laying down the law as the dm and would’ve shut that shit down so fast, it’s worth noting that a lot of ppl, ESP women, have a hard time asserting their boundaries & needs firmly and this might’ve been a situation where doing so was particularly difficult.
The absolute jumpscare of listening to this ep while actively in an acme in CT
Catching a lot of strays in this first case.
Week 8 begging for Roll Dolls to be available in the NADDPOD shop. PS the bailiff accidentally said “sell her hole” instead of “sell her soul”
Shout out ACME in Philly - Acme Idol was a modern day historical event.
Real ones know about Food Lion generics > Dr. Perky and Mountain Lion
Also assumed Acme was Loony Tunes until visiting grandparents in Delaware and PA. Also Harris Teeter house here
Drove past 2 Acmes while listening to this.
ACME SHOUTOUT
Who's down to crowdfund a Newsies remake with Jake(?) taking over Bill Pullman's role
sorry jake what was that??? what did sarah sell????
Jake being a huge newsies fan was a delight to learn
I want to stand up for Sarah here. Note the submitter was male and was very negative with his entire description of her and how she played. Speaking from experience, it is very hard to be the woman at the table with a bunch of people you met online. If everyone had a problem with her the DM wouldn’t have let her rejoin. Everyone plays differently and he is not her character so what he says is out of character for HER character isn’t his decision.
I mean even if it wasn't sexism, it seemed pretty clear that he doesn't like her for not being a role heavy player. A lot of people are mechanically minded, live plays skew people's perspective, but really a lot of people don't focus on that side. And it certainly seems like the OP thinks that is a sin.
Did anyone else think the BBEG's lieutenant from the Newsies submission was going to be Joseph Pullitzer BEFORE it was revealed they dressed as the Newsies cast or was that just my brain?
“There’s a real brand called ACME??” No, Caldwell, there are thousands of real brands called ACME Never thought I’d see the day that the cartoon lad is lacking in cartoon lore
The famously mononymic Trapp this week? NADDPOD is bringing the heavy hitters with the guests lately. Well played.
“I think we found Jake’s Dragon Ball Z” after Jake suddenly reveals himself to be a HUGE Newsies fan after all this time has got me laughing
I can speak on experience with the Mormon wives, specifically part of the dirty soda. My wife is a former Mormon and most of her family is still Mormon. The amount of sugar they consume is truly insane They are sugar addicts, with everything. A lot of Mormons become dentist because it’s easy and you get a lot of money quick to care for a family, but also because you’re gonna need the family discount discounts for all the fucking cavities Was just with them a few weeks ago for a family reunion, I sprained my ankle on the first night and all I could nurse myself with was a blackberry vanilla Dr Pepper I just wanted a little whiskey for the pain
me: Oh cool, BC mention !!! I'm from there!!! Can't wait to hear what they'll say! (proceeds to get absolutely roasted about postal codes)
dont come for me or my V2N ever again
Shout out to Price Chopper! Upstater here .. never seen or heard of Acme supermarkets
It’s the summer, Brian can have soda.
if I remember correctly, Acme was like actually a big brand before they became synonymous with Looney Tunes, because acme would be first in the phonebook. So a lot of places just called themselves acme.
Do the people know that there is in fact an American Psycho musical?
Camper should be ordered to get a fun lil dice tower that is collapsible
I think a table rule of like minimum HP gain is 3+con or something like that is a good idea, but you do gotta all have that roll lmao
If you roll for hit dice, in my humble opinion you absolutely must allow rerolling 1s. Otherwise, it’s not worth it. Say we have a d10, our average is 6. We can go 4 spaces up (7,8,9,10) and 5 spaces down (5,4,3,2,1). If we reroll 1s, it’s even chances to go up or down, and even chances to reroll or just take the average if you roll it. This would be a different story if the hit die average was on the lower end (4 for a d8 instead of 5, 5 for a d10 instead of 6, etc). But because the average is rounded up, if we wanna roll, to make it even odds and not skewed towards screwing yourself over, you should reroll 1s. Even if you reroll that 1 into a 1, roll it again. The lowest you’ll get is a 2.
I agree. I allow rerolling 1s and 2s personally.
Listening while seeing family in NJ and had to go to an Acme for groceries sooooo...
Dig in it Roll in it. Poop in it. Sleep in it. #This Is Grizzly Country
Literally listened while grocery shopping at an Acme market in SE Pennsylvania. Grew up in northern NY and had Price Chopper. Sadly this is the most connected I’ve felt to any episode of NADDPOD
Naw, hand dice bowl absolutely works. Is it satisfying? Absolutely, no. Will it work in a pinch if you’re in the gulag and the ground is gravel and you have no where to roll your prisoners allotment of dice? Absolutely, yes.
ACME!!!!!
PCHOPS
Jake what did you mean by "sell her hole '
Unbelievable that they let Jake get away with accidentally saying “sell her hole” and go un-razzed
You can tell they batch recorded these because there’s been absolutely no mention of Jimothy yet
honestly trapp was a great addition to this format.
Jake loves Newsies is the NADDPod lore I needed today
They’ve invented a new saying “You’ve dug your own poop hole, now lay in it… then poop in it, roll in it, and sleep in it.”
Jake doesn’t know his ACME Supermarket lore but as a Connecticutian surely he knows his STEW LEONARDS lore???
I am a public defender and I would give ANYTHING to have people in the courtroom clapping for me and my client
!!! Murph calling Jake a “fundamentally dishonest person.” I spat out my lunch laughing
Thats V 9 Zed to u sir 🇨🇦
newsies setting is the best “when did things come out” of all time I think (I work in labor history)
also to give credit to Jake’s first guess of 1912, there’s a scene in ragtime about the 1912 Lawrence MA textile strike! but probably actually the reason someone would pull that year is it’s when the titanic sunk lol
Little Murph going down to THE Acme for some summer cola.
I didn’t think I could love Jake more. Him knowing the whole plot of Newsies, and being able to sing multiple songs is so hot. 😅
Trapp has such a good voice.
This is more for the Tortle Tank, but i also feel like it may be common, the game that i started with, and something that i carried forward since then, is we roll for hp at level up, and it is below the average take the average
the brilliance at swing at everything to make the game go by quicker is amazing and quite upset that i didn't think it when i was in little league
The amount of hyped my sleep deprived self got when I found out they're doing the lore game with Trapp briefly woke me from my stupor
The bad guy in Newsies is Pulitzer, not Hurst. Also, how are you doing Newsies for over 20 minutes and only on page 11? That's just Santa Fe 1 and Carrying the Banner. Come on
ummm actually, Pulitzer is the one who gets the song but they’re both there. “Pulitzer and Hearst they think they’ve got us - do they got us? NO”
did not have Jake having all the Newsies references on my bingo card but loving it
Absolutely what I came here to say— sleeper hit of the episode is Jake’s locked and loaded Newsies knowledge (????)
Batman's Gotham is set in Murph's home state, NJ. Which also means, Gotham has an ACME.
lol which Batman?
what a fun episode!!! jake’s newsies reveal inspires a reverse biggest loreser episode where jake and emily go head to head in niche topics they know …
At 43:02 Jake says “sell her hole”
One person couldn't bring a dice tray on this camping trip?
Or a plate or cookpot?
The judge who accepted my name change said she liked how much my friend clapped for me.
Submitters are trying so hard to get Murph to say “honor the cock” and he is not budging an inch.
Big City Greens drop incoming?!?!!?? THANK YOU, TRAPP!
43:00 jake said "sell her hole" and nobody even razzed him
L m meh no r l Le.
Can someone with more skills than myself create a supercut of them all saying cock please?
Listen there's Acmes in Maryland and I love their app. Great coupons!!
Sooo Newsies mixed bag??
AGREE. seize the day, my friends.
This episode was an absolute delight 👏🏽 Mike is hilarious, looking forward to y'all having him on again
I grew up in central PA and the Acme there closed in the early 90s.
Really mad nobody razed Jake for his flub saying Sara volunteered to sell her hole to the devil
Shout out to the #acmehive (I’m in Philly) and Harris Teeter (love them free cookies/raised in NC)
Can confirm, live in Jersey and Acme is my regular spot for grocery shopping
#HonortheC0ck
#HonortheRock
I know what Murph means, AMCEs are all over the place in Philly as a middle tier grocery store
There are also thousands of other companies named acme all over the world
Acme represent! #northernohio
“this guy doesn’t even know who future trunks is” ive watched over 100 dbz episodes to not be on jake’s side of the joke 🙂↕️i know who future trunks is
I have been loving Gangs of Neogaladeron and want the big epic final fight BUT did wake up with mixed feelings hoping it was D&D court week. I just can't get enough of this tiny tiny bailiff!
I'm sorry?? "sell her hole"??? did anyone else hear that?
yes im crying
How is your Harry Potter reference for a potion puzzle the Triwizard Tournament and not the Chamber of Secrets! BTW, the potion puzzle in that one had 7 bottles, THREE of which were poison, and it was solved by a 12-year old.
That potion puzzle was actually in Philosopher's Stone! And I hate that I remember that
You just have to honour the cock
I was the 69th like
has anyone figured out what musical emily is talking about with the sad mom lament? it's for sure not newsies LOL i love her
The mom lament was cut from the stage musical but it’s definitely in the original movie. Jake was dead on with the lyrics too
Is there a petition for Mike Trapp to be a guest PC for either the main campaign or a side quest? If not, can someone with more executive function than me start one?
I don’t think they do guest PCs anymore. They’re too hard to schedule around. Which is why all their guests show up for the side content instead.
"That's because you're a fundamentally dishonest person!!" Whoa Murph calm down that's your buddy, jork
"I just did a bunch in my hand" Emily 🫠
Man what’s crazy I went and saw Newies this past Sunday!
Me yelling postal code at my phone 😂
Haha me too
Going off of the Acme brand cola.. does anyone have Shasta brand in their grocery stores? I grew up with that shii and pretty sure I've only seen it in one grocery store in my area (Rocky mountain region U.S.)
My quick Wiki wander has informed me that Shasta and Faygo are owned by the same company sooo. relevant to GoNG I suppose
Sammy Sosa mentioned
Dropping the Biggest Loreser tease is brutal for early listeners! Now I wait…
Rest up Murph, rest up <3
I am so excited to listen to this ep! Mike Trapp is hilarious and hearing him with the crew is going to be fucking incredible.
Ok is it just me? I've been playing DND for 10 plus years and not only have never rolled a cocked die, but no player or dm in all the games I've played has ever rolled one. I only learned about/ came across this in actual play podcasts. If you have an empty tray (which you absolutely should, even with my dice towers I have a tray at the bottom if it doesn't have one) Multiple dice imo should be rolled one at a time. Roll 10 d6? You've earned the suspense and time involved in rolling each die on its own
I've had cocked die many times. I'm mostly a GM, so my tray is kept pretty clear, but I have a metal die that seems to be able to hit the side of the tray and stop cocked. Also, I have some normal plastic or resin die that I roll in front of the board, and sometimes my players roll out front as well for big rolls, and die can end up cocked because of terran or papers
This is gonna be good
Perfect listen to go with my game of path finder!!
Isn’t that the guy who killed Pat Cassels?
Allegedly
Yaaaas late night costume projects are serving me well! Excited to listen!
I literally just pulled up my phone like "Well, where is it?!", and my phone buzzed in my hand with the patreon logo.
Yes!!
BrendaElizabeth and Turbine back together again
Yes!! That first arc of Wandering Heroes is how I found NADDPod! (Big Trapp fan, which led me to WH as an AP newbie, realized Emily, who I already liked from CH/ARA, was super fun in RP and had her own podcast, which led me here to Bahumia!)
Love Mike Trapp, very litigious lol
Yay!!!
Holy shit Mike Trapp??
lol why is everyone so surprised? They literally collaborate all the time
Yess
Yes!
All rise for the court! First time being first.
Let's go
