Mixed Bag of Holding: Murph & Caldwell's Childhood Writings

This reminds me of a book I started to write in... i want to say first grade? I wrote chapter 1 by hand, and several days later, my mom typed it up for me. But somehow, when i saw it typed and not in my own handwriting, I was like, "Oh no... this is terrible!" Lol. So i tore it up, threw it away, and tried to forget about it because I was so embarrassed. Lol All I remember is that the main character (a Westley/Zoro knockoff) had "a sword that his dad gave him" (which i misspelled as "bad"), and that "He coul lift 2,000 pounds. That's a lot!"

I’m not sure if Murph and Caldwell were just good writers as kids or if RL Stine was just writing like a 9/11 year old, but these stories kinda read like a goosebumps first draft 😂

Just after listening to this, my daughter gave me her Halloween short story that she won 3rd place with. She is in the 4th grade so it gave me the same vibes as listening to these. Love it! I will keep it so she can look back on it later on.

Kinda both? Still just 100% ripped off from other existing properties but a little more creative in the combination Thanks for retroactively making me feel better about my silly childhood ambitions haha

Elder Gen Z here (born in 98)- can’t say child me was ever particularly worried about losing my head tho I def do recall being unnerved by the girl w/ the green ribbon story. I was absolutely led to believe that quicksand was more of an everyday problem than it is tho. I personally was also very worried about getting pompeied and was terrified of volcanos-not sure how specific that was to me tho lol

Oh, this is really charming! At 9 I wrote an 8 page romance fanfiction of The Tombs of Atuan and The Mummy (1999). If I recall correctly, the heroes uncovered a buried library of demons imprisoned in books and they killed a bad archeologist
