The Manifest: Shadows over Manston news.
Hello everybody,
I removed this game several years ago entirely from Patreon, so if you are unaware this was a small game I made prior to Defending Lydia Collier, and then put on hold with a view to return to it when I finished Defending Lydia Collier.
However, I've now decided I will not be returning to it and will instead proceed with one of the new ideas I recently posted about instead, and whilst the game is no longer here, I know some of you have been following, and some subscribing, since SoM was here.
So I've gone into a lot more detail about why I am not returning to it here:
https://whitephantomgames.co.uk/news/manifest-news/
And here are the new ideas for my next project:

If you have been following hoping for a return to Shadows over Manston, please let me know what it was you liked so much about that game, and I'll take onboard when planning the next game to hopefully make something you like even more.
Thanks for all the new and continued support!

I liked the dynamic between the characters in SoM. The tense family dynamic and the awkward teacher and the bratty student. All very interesting dynamics that I wanted to see explored in both characterization and sexual components. I also really liked the dark noir vibe.
Bummer to hear but understandable once hearing your reasons in the article, can’t wait to see what ya decide for the next project
Holy
This game was awesome bring it back!!!!!!!
It's a pity, but completely understandable and expected. I'll definitely miss Mercedes - what a girl she was. Aside from her, I really enjoyed the story, it was solid. You have a real knack for dark, noir-style narratives, and that's honestly what drew me to your work in the 1st place.
Very sad to hear but thanks for the full confirmation though. (Shadows Over Manston) 1. At the time you put it out and even now the story itself holds the test of time. The plot and characters were and still are on par with Defending Lydia Collier. 2. The way the characters interacted with the MC and the relationships were also more real world relate able. 3. Also the way the MC was represented not as a whole overpowered MC or even as a dirty cop his partner stood by him even if he was wrong and it cost her. Not to mention how the other characters from the wife to the daughter interact with each other not really relationships but just basic interaction. 4. The most important thing out of everything was the game made you invested in it the who's who's from the mysterious organization and trained killers getting betrayed dirty cop cheating on his wife and taking dirty money. Even with all the plot points going on it was easy to to follow, play and you gave us a choice how the MC acted rather than a linear kinetic VN play through story . I read the the links I'm sorry you didnt make any money off of SoM but with the accomplishment of DLC you could try a rebrand of Som of let some of us old timers poll to see if its still enough support to have it as a side project. A complete face lift of SoM in a new setting the The Second World mention would really work out or The Detective story. Sorry it just Id hate to see such a really good story die but I understand its not a hobby but a full-time job. As Always thanks for the hard work and effort put in.
It's been a while since I played SoM, so it's quite blurry. But there are a few memorable things about it that make me wish the game was completed: 1. The fiancee. I believe there was a chastity cage play in a store? That store visit was the most I remember of her, but she was a great LI for sure. Steph kind of took over that role in DLC. 2. Mercedes. She had a dark streak, and was rebellious, but not a total bitch. Such LIs are rare. And overall she just was very hot. 3. Obviously, the story was solid overall. A new story would probably be better, but I became invested in this one. I also remember the antagonist, but for me that wouldn't be a reason enough to want a continuation. The setting was decent, but not a deal breaker.
I just loved the atmosphere. It seemed like a decent mystery with a clear road it intended to takes its story. I obviously understand why the setting and such would be a huge dealbreaker,. Said setting and premise was a reason i was intrigued by the game initially, but of course would make further profitability difficult such as via Steam. You say several of the character models from SoM were later used as a basis for characters in DLC, but I don't still cling to my love for SoM because of the character models. I did because of the hints of personality and development we got in those past releases and the promises of where the story would go. Personally, it took me a while to come around to DLC because I was hoping SoM would be finished or at least see some kind of conclusion. DLC and the next game will be better games on a technical level with the culmination of your years of experience thus far, but I can't help but mourn the loss of what SoM had to offer.
Sad to hear you confirm you won’t return to Shadows Over Manston, even more so that it was the game that got me into your games, but I still nonetheless appreciate you and everything you’ve done on the game. As far as what I liked about the game, the things that I guess really drew me to the game was 1) the plot was just generally really cool and interesting: a cop waking up from a coma and having to reconnect with his family while taking on a new gig as a school officer while also investigating incidents related to how he ended up in the coma, and 2) the characters and their dynamics and relationships with the protagonist, really liked certain characters we could meet and get to know, my favorite being the teacher who had the 4 daughters we could get close to and our wife’s sister and the love triangle between us, her and her sister (our wife). These were just some of the things about the game that really drew me into it and hope that you take some of them into the next game that I am REALLY looking forward to playing! 🙌
