Recommend me Anime pleasu
Anyone have any fun animoohs to watch? I haven't really watched anything for the last couple years and most of the mainstream things don't really interest me. I want to get back in touch with what shows people watch. No shounen unless it's really unusual, not a fan of like fairy tails or hero academias or anything with tournament arcs and powerups and all that.
Some of my favorite animoos are Steins Gate, Madoka, Mononoke, Dennou Coil, Kaiji, Gurren Lagann, Yuru Yuri, most of those are ancient now. Out of more recent ones I've liked Konosuba and Lovelive but that's about it.
So feel free to drop any recommendations on things you liked! Thanks in advance!

I'm extremely late but if you're still reading these I have to recommend my favorite isekai Mushoku Tensei. From what you listed it sounds right up your alley.
jujitsu kaisen
Kill La Kill is an insane anime and so much fun
The Misfit of Demon King Academy. Its the funniest show in years. Good for the memes.
I already commented beforehand but I will sasy Wotakoi was fun to watch and while I can't recommend Case Closed exactly, its something I consider a Junk Food anime since I love mysteries so much. I know you wanted shows but an anime movie I will always recommend is A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi), its very depressing but heartfelt about the story of a deaf girl.
Big O
Violet evergarden, for beautiful animation and well written story. Psycho Pass, ID. Invaded, and Promised Neverland. All great psychologicals the first two are a whodunit' cop mystery. I've heard Yona of the Dawn is super great and under-rated Kill La Kill is an always for me after Gurren Lagann Kobayashi's Dragon maid is super cute fun Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions is probs my fave Slice of life romance. Devilman Crybaby is a trip of an animation. Idk how to describe it. And a brand new 2021 Pick is Fena: Pirate Princess. Mystery adventure. Superb visuals.
I've seen most of these but never heard of Fena, that looks really interesting! I'll definitely watch some
The Life of Violet Evergrarden
somali and the forest spirit
no gun life was good you can watch Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song
Pooh I forgot DoroHeDoro it's a good one. Not cute at all tho fyi AND AND Saga of Tanya the Evil. It has no business being as fun as it is.
Yu-go-oh(Japanese) initial D. Are two great ones.
Odd Taxi is pretty good
Someone has probably already mentioned Yuru Camp. It’s sweet and wholesome and even though there are no fats, one of the girls really enjoys food. Also Tawawa on Monday for short episodes about boobs bouncing.
Ohh I've completely forgotten about Yuru camp existing, definitely have to give it a try!
just recently watched ODDTAXI
Overlord it’s basically a DND campaign but as an anime aka it’s fun
Ahh I liked overlord a lot, haven't seen the new season yet maybe I should watch it
From the new world
Yeeesss someone else has seen it
Goblin Slayer is really good.
I enjoyed it for a couple episodes but then it got really repetitive
Bungo stray dogs is one of my favorites that isn’t too mainstream
Interesting I'll take a look
Erased is fantastic
Ohh it is indeed!
mob psycho 100 for sure
Seconded
Charlotte, Parasyte, Made in abyss.
Ahh I've seen all those, very good ones!
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid was pretty solid and they recently released season 2 stuff so may be a worthwhile check. You could also try The Ancient Magus' Bride.
I've seen one episode of magus bride but I feel like it didn't really have a plot. Is it more slice of life or is there more to come?
Madoka has a spin-off series called Magia Record which is pretty good. Happy Sugar Life is a wonderful Psychological Horror series.
Ohh haven't heard about happy sugar gonna check that out, thanks!
You and me both. By the way does Jojo count as really unusual? Because it’s amazing
I've tried to watch it like five times but I always get bored at the fight scenes and drop it. I know it's good it's just really hard for me to get into
Vandread, Burst Angel, El Cazador re la Bruja, Canaan, Trigun, Girls und Panzer, Desert Punk.
Golden Kamuy
Revolutionary Girl Utena is lesbian as hell and apparently inspired a lot of today's gay animators (Steven Universe especially). Also has lots of swordfighting and overdramatic hilarious stuff. And the whole thing is free on YouTube unless you're nation-locked out of it!
Damn I've watched utena ages ago but I've never seen the full show. I've seen Star Driver which was loosely based on it but I think I should watch the original after all these years
Based on what you wrote, try: Hinamatsuri - psychic girl takes over Yakuza's apartment. Comedy. March Come In like a Lion - Somber anime about a struggling Shogi player. Kinda a drama. Descending Stories: Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju - Rakugo, a way of spoken performance done by a single actor playing all parts. Follows a Rakugo artist and their master in modern times. Drama. Golden Kamuy - Saichi Sugimoto, a veteran of the early twentieth century Russo-Japanese War, and his quest to find a huge fortune of gold of the Ainu people, is helped by a young Ainu girl named Asirpa. Adventure. Ask for more if these look interesting.
Just finished Jojos Bizarre Adventure recently, that's a fun watch.
My Love Story is a fun romance anime.
Inferno Cop
Fate/Zero I recommend, people hype it up for the animation but what really makes it special is absolutely sublime character work
I'm so glad I'm not alone in the disinterest in tournament arcs
Re:Zero
Love is War
Gunsmith Cats
Don't think it's listed here yet, so I'm gonna pitch Gatchaman Crowds. It's my all time favorite anime, is a bit shounen-y, but mostly focuses on the characters and their differing ideals, and how those come into conflict with each other - there's only a few real action sequences in each of the two seasons. Also the character designs are great, and the MC's personality feels so different and refreshing, and how she deals with problems is always so interesting.
To your eternity
1.86 (that's the name! Sad but good) 2.Shin Sekai Yori (older but good) 3. Peach Boy Riverside is okay so far but some weird tentacle fanservice 4. "So I'm a Spider..." is poorly made but the MC has a ton of personality. Isekai genre
Kami-tachi ni Hirowareta Otoko Slime Taoshite 300-nen Shiranai Uchi ni Level Max ni Nattemashita Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha Mairimashita! Iruma-kun Kemurikusa Start with these and come back to me.
senki zesshou symphogear!!!! Absolutely one of the best animes I've ever seen with some amazing and loveable characters with some Absolutely amazing music!!!
You said “no shounens unless it’s really unusual,” so maybe you’d enjoy Vinland Saga? It’s really mature/serious so it kinda borders more on seinen, but the basic premise is it’s an anime involving the Norse settlers of North America, and a lot of the characters are based on real historical figures. The whole series takes place in Iceland, Scandinavia, the Baltic Sea and the British Isles around 1000 AD. I can’t really say much more without spoiling but it’s really amazing!
I recommend oddtaxi. It is about a taxi driver and the people he drives around are all connected in some way.
Sounds like it could be a Steinbeck novel
No shonen huh? This makes it harder. How about toaru kagaku no railgun, mekakucity actors, and for shits and giggles watch space dandy and for older taste watch trigun. It’s shounen but Sci-fi like gurren laugann
Golden Kamuy is an fun historical anime set in Hokkaido in the middle of the Meiji restoration. It's pretty unique and filled with odd characters and action.
Angel beats is really good
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation its really good and isnt just a "you got reincarnated and are now god" type of stuff, its much more down to earth in terms and it also doesnt have the usual smoothbrain protagonist that is just good at everything
Attack on Titan. I know its technically a Shonen & mainstream but it's A LOT more grounded and less "power of love and friendship will overcome literally any threat" than something like Naruto or Mha. If you're into vampires Shiki in an awesome show though a little bit lesser known. Psychopass and the movies are also all great, it's a dystopian sci-fi cop show
I recently finished Sentouin, Hakenshimasu! and loved it. It seems like a cross between Konosuba (of course) and Excel Saga, if you've seen that oldie. Looking back over the last few years, I can also recommend Hinamatsuri as a really quirky comedy, Kakushigoto as a sentimental comedy, Machikado Mazoku is a good magical girl parody, and Zombieland Saga as a great idol parody. Shadows House was an interesting, dark, um, not sure how to describe it. Not really drama or horror, not that heavy, but... interesting!
Black Butler is really fun
Megalobox and Nomad (2nd season of Megalobox). My fav show of all time is Chihayafuru though but it's a bit niche
I'd recommend My Next Life as a Villainess and Persona 4: The Animation (not Golden). Other people mentioned No Game No Life and Your Lie in April and I can confirm they are awesome
Babylon is a pretty good mystery anime
Gantz is a good one too
Seven Deadly Sins is a good one, as well as DoroheDoro
Houseki no Kuni (aka Land of the Lustrous) has the concept of every character is named after a gemstone, but it has such an inspired and interesting story and world.
• Bakemonogatari (Supernatural, Comedy with great waifus). • 3-gatsu no Lion (Sports, Drama, Comedy). • Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (Black Comedy, tons of social commentary). • Dead Leaves (Strange, Psychological, comedy movie) • Getter Robo Armageddon (If you love Gurren Lagann you WILL love this). • Ichigo Mashimaro (Dry comedy, slice of life.). • Kekkai Sensen (Action, Sci-fi, Comedy.). • Pani Poni Dash (Absurd, Esoteric Comedy. ) • School Rumble (Wacky Romance Comedy). • Metropolis (Sci-fi, Drama, Movie) • K-On (Fun, Music, Slice of Life, Comedy.). Hope you like them :^D
Jujutsu kaisen
Non Non Biyori! It’s a slice of life comedy about girls growing up in the Japanese countryside! (Like RURAL countryside like the boonies) it’s a really special show to me that can make you laugh and make your heart melt out of nostalgia for the simple times of childhood, I think you’d really like it💖
No game no life
Slayers if you didn't already watched it. It's old buttgold. Has lots of good characters and like 3 big 24 ep seasons 2 13 ep seasons, 5 movies and 6 OVA episodes.
If you're one who likes to watch an anime and feel stuff. Like sentimental value, I would recommend your lie in April. It is so good and personally connected with me on a personal level. It's not very long but it is so worth it. If you want to watch an anime with sentimental value and a hard-hitting plot, Your Lie in April is for you.
Dr Stone and The Promised Neverland :)
Did you ever check out Kill la Kill? If you liked Gurren Lagann it's probably up your alley.
Odd Taxi
Weird recommendation, but the promised never land is good, if you like suspenseful eerie anime, with a great story
Pandora Hearts?~
Oldie but goldie
Drifting Dragons on Netflix is pretty interesting + it's main draw is basically cooking lessons with dragon bits
Terror in Tokyo Dr. Stone Castlevania Code Geass (if you can get over the animation) Cowboy Bebop JuJutsu Kaisen is superb Aaaand JoJo
I would say my fave is the rising of the shield hero. A couple of other good ones is darling and the franxx, gundam mobile suit unicorn, full metal alchemist brotherhood, agrestco on netflix.
Re:zero is one of my faves, has elements of konosuba and steins gate being time travel and isekai. Very amazing show
Hopeanuoli ofc :P
High Score Girl is real Underated Gem
If you really want to watch something that makes you think a lot then go watch Evangelion starting from the original series and movies to the rebuild movies. I guarantee you’ll love it.
I recommend the anime Bofuri: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, So I'll Max Out My Defense or I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level if you liked Konosuba
Gabriel Dropout is a fave of mine Love Chuunibyou and other delusions New Game! Comic Girls Blend-S
I'd say it's a shounen, but only sometimes. I'd say it's a comedy, but only sometimes. It's touching and emotional, but only sometimes. It's always about character interaction and dialogue that slowly builds a world around it's many characters. It's unique and you should never watch the first 2 episodes. One of the least mainstream things in this comments section: Gintama.
Based on what you said, I’m going to have to recommend <i>NANA.</i> It really raised the bar on what I considered possible in character writing.
It seems like you have good taste if you like Steins;Gate (my favorite), Madoka, and Gurren Lagann! You’ve probably seen FMAB, Death Note is great, Code Geass is great, I also like Kill la Kill, Re:Zero, Erased, Death Parade, Berserk 1997, Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Attack on Titan, Vinland Saga, Violet Evergarden, Samurai Champloo, and Baccano! I’m kinda in the same boat honestly where I haven’t watched stuff in a while, so yeah… :(
I’d say watch Kill Me Baby. As long as you can get past the OP lol. It’s like a slapstick slice-of-life comedy with the main character constantly getting hurt lol. Lucky Star and Azumanga are good SOL anime too, albeit pretty old lol.
Could also try The Simpsons
I don't really watch anime but me and my gf really liked Beastars on Netflix. Fun, silly, but can also be serious and dramatic.
I really like Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. Best Isekai out there honestly
Trigun or desert punk would probably be up your alley, my fav is fooly cooly (FLCL) the OG season is like a 2.5 hour binge and its a work of art. Theres two newer seasons of it and theyre good too. When i watched it in highschool i liked it because of its chaotic storytelling and incredible soundtrack, and as im maturing i enjoy it for the complex drama and charictor growth. For the time it takes to watch, its totally worth it, although its a bit difficult to keep up with at times. Also, it has a flawless dub if youre into that.
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid
Despite what most people say overlord is pretty good though I will admit the first 2 or 3 episodes are a slow burn but that's because its just showing who the characters are sets up the plot of that our main characters are the bad guys and if you want to cringe so much that your head recedes in to your chest cavity but still has really good jokes then my first love monster is the defacto anime for that man me and my friend laughed all day and night with that one, and lastly if you want a more mindbending anime then the mecha anime geneshaft is up there with the setting and how the story unfolds
Neo Jellyfish Evange Lion
rise of the shield hero that time I got reincarnated as a slime shirobako re zero the devil is a part timer dragon maid older, weirder ones: mnemosyne garden of sinners shikabane hime yondemasuyo azazel san tokyo esp
Gotoubun no Hanayome, Magi: the Labyrinth of Magic/Kingdom of Magic, Tate no yuusha
All these comments and I have yet to see Cowboy Bebop. Same universe as Space Dandy, and, I mean, bounty hunters, in space, with jazz. Good time.
If you like steins gate you might enjoy Tokyo Revengers

RedLine was a trippy adventure, definitely recommend. Saga of Tanya the Evil is another good one.
samurai champloo remains my favourite anime of all time. made by the same people who made cowboy bebop. absolute masterpiece of an anime from the 2000s :)
I really enjoyed dorohedoro.
I've been getting my gf into Jojos Bizzare Adventure and it's pretty fun to rewatch for me
A Place Further Than the Universe is a slice of life about 4 girls going on an expedition to Antarctica, each for their own diverse reasons. It made me laugh, cry, and feel genuine glee for the characters. It's a single season and easily one of the most beautiful works of art I've ever watched. I recommend everyone does themself the favour of watching it.
Jujutsu Kaisen is really good. It's shounen, but it's extremely high quality and it flips between being very dark and very funny.
Have you watched Kill la Kill?
Well yeah I guess even kill la kill is old now
Wonder Egg Priority, the anime is really worse it, but the end meh.
Watch Oddtaxi. Watch it. It's amazing. You'll thank me when you do.
Ohh no it's furries... I guess I have to watch it since so many people suggested
If you're not scared of something with a different than typical kind of artstyle, there's Kemonozume
wow that looks cool I'll check it out
I really liked Seven Deadly Sins, I don't really like anime very much so I was pleasantly surprised. Beastars was a trip, and there is a funky one called Parasite: The Maxim on Netflix that I enjoyed, if not only for the super interesting premise
Parasite is really good, I enjoyed it greatly. I like Seven sins a lot but I have trouble getting into the second season
I mean I like digimon adventure (2020), there is girlfriend girlfriend, but I haven't watched it yet being honest
I had not heard about this, is it gonna be adults like the new-ish digimon game that came out recently
The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. Might be worth a shot if you're down for something chill and stupid
Ohhh I forgot I actually watched all that. I loved it, one of the best comedies in recent years
I’m betting you’ve already watched it Kippu, or someone else has already recommended it, but Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood was amazing, and I wish I could forget about to so I could rewatch it all over again. I recently watched Devilman Crybaby, and it’s absolutely bonkers and quick to watch. Just starting Beastars now, not sure how long it is.
Yeah I think everyone has seen FMA if they are into anime at all. But it's one of the best so for good reason! I've watched like 5 eps of devilman on netflix but it did not really quite catch for me
I was also gonna recommend Space Dandy, but since someone else went with it I am just gonna recommend Nichijou.
Have you seen Clannad or Your Lie in April?
I have actually, Clannad was a really long time ago
If you haven't watched Nichijou yet, it's a must
I've watched a couple episodes but I don't think it appealed to me as much as azumanga or yuru yuri etc. even tho it's very similiar. Maybe I need to give it another try
You might enjoy Megalo Box. It’s an underdog story where a boxer tries fighting in a boxing sport where people have robotic arms and he chooses not to use them. The first season is pretty straightforward but the sequel season gets pretty story heavy
Is that fighting heavy? The story sounds interesting but I don't really enjoy watching fights or sports
Space Dandy
Have actually watched it
Season 2 of Maid Dragon was my personal favorite over this summer, really recommend it!
Steins;gate is really good, so good taste on that. I really like Kaguya-sama: love is war and Kobayashi's dragon maid. If you want something slower/a bit more somber I'd recommend 3-gatsu no lion.
Ahh I've watched all of those actually, Kaguya sama is really good, not a huge fan of meido dragon and march comes like a lion is... weird. It had some very involving parts but overall I feel like I watched through it without remembering much
If you liked Love Live, for a fun but definitely goofier idol romp, try Zombieland Saga. It’s one half idol show one half comedy, and pulls it off great. It just finished airing its second season. And the title song SLAPS
I WAS JUST ABOUT TO RECOMMEND THIS
Shinigami Bocchan to kuro maid is a cute rom com
Ahh this seems interesting, thanks!
Tsukimichi(Moonlit Fantasy) and Princess Connect Re:Dive are both recommendations I'd say to go for, given Konosuba as a basis here.
I've only seen clips of princess connect but I think I'll give it a proper try
To your eternity. It’s about an orb that’s cast into the world and is able to mimic things it comes in contact with. Also rascal does not dream of bunny girl senpai. It’s about a guy who encounters girls afflicted with puberty syndrome and helps them
Ahh someone else also suggested bunny senpai, I'll give it a try
Kobayashi's Maid Dragon cause Elma always hungry
I literally just started watching Dr. Stone today. Seems pretty good so far.
Keep your hands off Eizouken was a very fun series about three girls trying to get an anime started. Edens Zero is a good shonen that's airing currently with space battles and cool sci-fi tech. Dr Stone is great, about people who get stuck in a future with limited tech who have to rebuild society
How shounen-ish is Dr stone? People praise it a lot but like I said I'm not into tournaments and power battles.
Code Geass?
Re Zero is pretty good
ODDTAXI
