The system of traits in 'The Library Story'

The extra time we've taken was very useful for our game - firstly we finished text stuff for all the quests, secondly translated it and got ready corrected texts (thanks to our beta-readers!). We also added an extra art to there, where it was missing. So now we're busy addins some new mechanics planned for ver 0.9 - the system of traits.

The fact is that during the development of LS concept we planned initially to add a lot of parameters for Belle. It would be additional scales like good/evil, statistics for every her possible profession, skills in different types of sex... But as work progressed we realized that we should either hire an additional staff of writers who would write dozens of options of situations development (including different replies depending on chars parameters) or all these settings will not affect the gameplay at all. Neither one nor the other option for obvious reasons aren't suitable for us. Therefore, we decided now to focus on several basic parameters, gradually adding some other secondary... And to express a number of chars features by using the traits, which today we are talking about!

If you'd played 'Crusader Kings II', then you already have a rough idea of what we want adding into the game. If not, you'll soon see in ver 0.9 ^^`. But now it can be said that the traits are a very demonstrable and easy way to show (and include into the checks) different characters features.

For example, if Gaston reads tons of books, he will have a "Bookman" trait. As a result, it will be easier for him to find a common language with Belle, who has such a trait too.

Or another example - Belle has a "Prude" from the very beginning of the game.

A prude is a person who will hit anyone who tries to touch her. And after that, she’ll hit their balls with her knees and continue by hitting their head.

Effect: It’s almost impossible to persuade a prudish person to do anything erotic. The corruption increase and its effects are slowed.

Thus, Belle is very difficult to persuade doing something spicy. More difficult than other characters. But after Gaston will finally succeed in persuading her to do something rather lewd (and yes, it will happen in LS 0.9 ;) ), Belle will lose this trait. And then things will go more fun.

In version 0.9, we've just started to implement this system, so it will not yet cover all of the aspects of the game we've planned. But we will definitely develop this, so it will be more entertaining later.
