Beta testing and proofreading have just started.
As soon as I know a little bit more, I can set a release date.
I'm aiming for a November release for the $25 tier, and that's all I can say at the moment.
If you base your pledge on the release date, please wait until the release date is final.
I know that everyone is excited; you should be, and I am too.
Please, be patient with us during this final phase, and the update will come faster.
Important information regarding patching
I will explain in the section below why I cannot supply a patch for this update.
What this means for v0.8.0 is that everyone will have to download the full game this time.
I haven't forgotten about the $5 patrons waiting for the patch. Anyone who pledges $5 in December 2021 and has pledged at least $15 total on Patreon during this year will get a DM with the links to the full update two weeks after release.
However, there won't be a post for any patch, and I will temporarily remove the $5 tier patch reward on release. When the first patch of Season 3 becomes available, this tier reward will return.
Detailed information
Now, why won't a patch be available?
To make a long story short, I have upgraded Ren'Py to the latest version to enable 64-bit Windows. The upgrade causes patching to be a nightmare, even for an above-average PC user, so I opted out of it this time.
The Ren'Py upgrade made the game run much smoother and become more responsive than before. When I saw the results, it was worth spending extra time to fix the deprecated functionality and issues that came from upgrading. This upgrade will most likely eliminate all weird out-of-memory bugs and remove most lag from your game.
All in all, you will notice the positive effects of upgrading the Ren'Py version. The only downside to upgrading the game to 64-bit is that 32-bit systems aren't supported anymore. Examples of 32-bit OS that won't be supported are Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows XP. That's the future for all Ren'Py games, not just Being a DIK.
Aside from upgrading Ren'Py, I have tested my save transfer system on Steam and tested a temporary new season 3 binary for Steam as well. It all went smoothly, and I am confident that my chosen way to continue developing the game will be feasible for Patreon and Steam.
So, that's very good news for the Being a DIK development in general.
What will happen now?
Testers and proofreader will get the time they need to test and play. I will fix any bugs and typos they find.
This update is big - something they all commented on after their first playthrough - and it will require several playthroughs to explore fully. When they test, they are also working against a checklist that I provide with tasks that need to be tested.
Testing will also cover earlier episodes to find any bugs from the Ren'Py upgrade.
We are working our hardest, but because of the Ren'Py upgrade and the size of the game, there might be new bugs we missed during testing; as always, I appreciate any bug reports players send my way.
Meanwhile, I will perform additional tests and continue to polish the game.
I will also prepare for the distribution of the Patreon version.
What can you as a player do to prepare?
You can ensure that your saves are up to date and that you have saved at the end of the episode 7 update, where the game tells you to save. Yes, your old saves will work without any issues as long as you did this.
You can make sure that you have enough disk space for the update.
The game will be approximately 19 GB when you extract it, meaning that you will need at least 40 GB of free disk space to download the game and extract it.

Fixed a rare bug with the mansion mini-game.
Fixed cosmetic bugs with the phone.
Fixed an issue with the "Previously on Being a DIK" section for episode 7.
Fixed a bug with reaching turn 100 in Triple Tile.
Fixed an issue where the MC didn't get the right avatar in the Bios app.
Fixed an issue with Rooster images not being closed with the middle-mouse button on the old phone.
Fixed an issue where Brandi was named Brian in her dialogue.
Fixed a Bios issue with Josy.
Fixed an issue where Madame Rose was misplaced in alphabetical order in the Bios app.
Fixed an issue where the Madame Rose intro was played after each choice when visiting her using the phone.
Corrected typos in episode 7

how long after the Patreon release will Season 2 be available on Steam?
It's not decided yet. I will start working on the Steam version immediately after the Patreon version has been released, but it will require testing and additional code so I can't set a date for it yet.

You have to be at least a $5 sub, then it's the pinned post at the top. Well worth it! I would estimate there is over 60 hours of content in one playthrough if you actually read the story. There's honestly much more because replays are actually a thing in this game because there are so many paths and your choices have consequences.
Hey doc, if i download this update from steam is the old save i can use it?
Patreon and Steam saves aren't compatible. If you download the Patreon version, you have to start over. You still have some time before the release to do this, which means that you can start playing episode 8 from those new saves when it drops.
i don't know if tinyrock12 is complaining about the game size itself, or if when downloading the game the download may fail, if its the former, well it is a detailed game and a great game, up-to you if you want it or not. You can't expect a B.M.W. to be the size and power of a two stroke motor or a Rocket Ship to be the size of a Bi-Plane. if it's the later, well my best advise to DrPinkCake is to have update's if possible, but also to have the downloads zipped, but split into maybe 5 gb or 10 gb parts so people can get it in a couple of downloads and recombine when unzipping, zip, rar whatever he thinks is best.
Yes, I've thought about this, but decided against it, since I've gotten too many questions regarding "how do I unzip". I fear that splitting the zip into smaller volumes will clog my inbox with even more "I can't unzip". One big volume is what I will be going for.

The last time I needed 40GB to download a game was FFX remaster on PS3. This game in terms of size is equivalent to a ff franchise. Let that sink in.

I'm missing 3 scenes in episode 7. I have Josy episode 7 unlocked, then 3 locked scenes then another Josy scene. I'm guessing they're probably Bella or Cathy or Jade. can someone give me an idea what path I need to take? I've honestly played this game like 15 times and cant believe I still have locked scenes.
You know, there´s an Official Walkthrough document, which describes in details how to get all scenes, collectibles etc?

well after playing through the whole game (7episodes) in the last few days I could not do anything else than to go huge dik. It was a really great experience. And at first I was not even sure but these characters get so well fleshed out and even the people you do not expect to like become special. This wasrly an experience Great work man
Just got dont with my first playthrough last night, second everything you said. Characters were phenominal, story had legitimately shocking twists and turns, I got pushed out of my comfortzone in good ways, and the imagines were impressively hot - 10/10

Quick question when we download the full game and delete the old version of the game, will our save files be fine when loading it up from the appdata/renpy/beingadik folder? Sorry about asking I've just had issues in the past with other games where save files would be messed up when loading up from the appdata folder.

Weird, I've never seen any bugs. And you shouldn't support 32 bit OS's at all. Anyone still using that is over 20 years behind current technology and shouldn't be spending their money on video games if that is their situation.

Will Steam season 2 be launched along with the November Patreon subscribers release? Or will it be pushed back into December or possibly even later. Even though I intend on buying it on Steam I'm not opposed to increasing my monthly pledge to ensure I'm able to download and play the much anticipated episode 8as close to if not the day it becomes available. I just pledged $15 a month on the 1st...wish I knew that on the second it would be paywalled in the $25 pledge for the month of November (tentative)
No news for Steam release at the moment. But it requires plenty of extra work so it won't be at the same time as Patreon.
Ohhhh I can't wait. No rush though. I'm more than willing to be patient to see this come out in a good state. Just gonna have to clear out a good amount of space on my drives if I wanna be able to fit this AND BF2042 😅

What about us slow/patient/busy gamers? I haven't played through Episode 5 but have my game updated to Episode 7. If we save at any point with Episode 7 installed, will our saves work after the full install?
Maybe, but it's not a guarantee. What I would do is to try loading your save in v0.8.0, if it doesn't work go back to your old version and save at another spot and then try again until it works. Ends of episodes are often safe spots to save and continue.
In the spirit of refactoring and migrating to newer Ren'Py, may I request better touch support? Targeting those tiny scrollbars is really a pain in the ass!
Are automatic saves still causing a lag, or has that problem been fixed by upgrading RenPy to the latest version and transfering game to 64-bit?
You can turn autosaving off in the next version, but save lag has been reduced with the upgrade.

This is perfect I Just finished unlocking the last scene this instant :D I did note a couple of things that may require fixing in the dialogues. I will try and find them all back but the one that I remember is that when I got the lewd scene with Lilly at the hot party the dialogue was as if we never had sex before even though I already did her at the prep party. (I had something similar with Riona at some point too I think)
I noticed something like that too when you meet Envy (Nicole) and Sandy at MacAllen's. Sandy doesn't seem to remember you even though she gave MC a lap dance when you and Rusty were talking at the Pink Rose. I just kind of wrote it off as she was really stoned or something.

There will be free alternatives to MEGA, yes. But as the last release proved, this release is anticipated and every host site I use will experience problems with download speed.

You will need the double because after extraction, you will have both the zip file and the extracted folder (19+19.5 GB ~40GB)
