Steam release date announcement
After working hard on the Steam build for Being a DIK: Season 1, I can now announce that the release date on Steam will be Valentine's day, February 14th, for PC and Linux systems.
Sadly, I have some bad news I must communicate. I had to remove macOS support for the Steam version due to a new Apple policy of forced notarization of all apps. Steam is doing their job of following the new guidelines.
It's a ridiculous policy from Apple's side and instead of jumping through the hoops, making Steam development unfeasible for indie developers such as myself, who cross-compile and don't even own a macOS system, I've decided to drop support for macOS on Steam for now.
Please note that you can still get macOS versions on Patreon, but be advised that once you upgrade to newer versions of Catalina, Apple may disable the app for you (and you'll have to override some security settings to make the game playable, if that's even possible).
This change is something that all Ren'Py developers will have to adapt to in the future.
Other than that, I'm really happy for both the Patreon and Steam release of Season 1 of Being a DIK.
To celebrate the release, I'm giving away 50 Steam keys to patrons.
Since there's no way for me to do this in a fair way I have decided to hold a lottery for them.
This lottery has ended. All winners have received a DM with a Steam key.

great game with so, so many choices to make
Very realistic characters unlike other games. Even the adult scenes are believable and don't look insane . Yes male is well endowed but humanly believable and not disproportionate to the rest of his body. Please don't change the characters they are great, add more or take away some as needed but leave MC and main cast the way they are because many of us agree there great.

Loved ep4, maybe my fav so far! I don't know if constructive feedback is a thing you're looking for, especially post-rollout, but in case small practical comments are helpful in the future: -Love the tennis minigame. That said (and maybe it's bc I'm dumb) I just straight up didn't understand the mechanics of the game like the first 2 times I tried it, i.e. I thought that the objective was to hit the tennis ball as quickly as possible and make sure the ticker didn't slide up to the red. Some clarifying instructions might have been helpful -In the free roam inside of Isabella's house, her main room might tbh have too many positions. I found it actually a bit tricky to like orient myself and navigate around while exploring and looking for renders, something I don't usually feel during many of the simpler free roams
Thanks a lot, both are great points. I should make a one screen tutorial for the tennis game. The layout of Bella's main room was tricky due to the watering minigame and I agree that this is something I need to improve upon in general for freeroams.

I loved Acting Lessons it was my first VN I encountered. Awesome emotional story that really reels you in. I'm looking forward to the Steam release of Being a DIK. The soundtrack from what I've seen so far is the bomb. I love the punk tracks.

Major outline the the entire game is written, yes. I know what I want to include before the game is over, that's why I haven't set a fixed number of episodes, yet. But in the future I will be able to.

Honestly, Apple sometimes really makes it too hard for devs on the smaller scale, I simply cannot understand how they could implement this without even thinking of their potential losses for both their user base as well as revenue X( Either Way, we have your back man! Never give up this amazing talent of yours!
The thing about not being concerned of backwards compatibility is baffling as well. All currently working unsigned apps will stop working due to this; unless they are updated.

I agree with @MarcRunkel. Signing your software and malware scanning is an important security feature and is about time they require it. I understand your problem given that you don't have an OS X machine but there are ways around the exactly the same way you cross-compile your project. If you need help with that - just message me. I'm a software developer so I should be able to figure it out.
Malware scanning is absolutely important. But why not put that step before installation or during download? Build it into the AV. I've looked up the steps to make this possible and from the looks of it there's no way to make it fully automated. It requires an OS X machine, dev ID, xcode setup, various signing steps, waiting for apple to say the build is good to go and crossing fingers they don't take issue with this being an adult product. I've seen a solution by RenPyTom who suggests that you can download a signed version of Renpy SDK and launch the game through it on Mac. I think that it will be the way to do this in the future for me. It doesn't solve the Steam dilemma, but it solves issues for a Patreon version.

I understand your frustration, but from the point of view of Apple and the Apple userbase, it's not a ridiculous policy. It's another step in ensuring that "normal" users aren't falling prey to malware. That said, I fully understand that it's not worthwhile to make signed releases for Mac OS.

another attempt from Apple to make their ecosystem a walled garden (or keep it like that, depending on your viewpoint). Sorry to hear that. Not that I own an apple, but if you're over 18 nobody should be able to tell you what you can and cannot play. I hope the Steam Version will have achievements, would give me a reason to play through it again. And maybe some trading cards and wallpapers of our beloved girls :) Something subtle, that works as a profile background.

Rolling the dice for my freebie! I have acting lessons and the Mac version gives a warning but when I play it I have no problems. There are other games on steam that I thought wouldn’t play on Mac because of warnings the platform gives, but the renpy ones seem fine.
Yeah, it will always warn the user, but the new versions of Catalina will remove the warning and replace it with a message that says you can't open the app altogether. I still think you can fiddle with security settings to make it playable, but I wouldn't be surprised if Apple disables that as well. I can only state that no version you'll play downloaded from my Patreon page will ever have malware.
Hope the game is a huge success on steam like it is on patreon! It's definitely my favorite adult game of it's genre.
