Battle fatigue

I was a bit nervous uploading this one.  Would people object to it in some way?  I am more confident now, as I have today received a few e-mails from ex-service personnel who have thanked me for getting it as right as I did.  It is discursive, and a little bit speculative, and perhaps a bit long, and has a big complicated issue to deal with.  Soonish, I'll upload another long one about the problems of training men to kill.

Battle fatigue - did it affect soldiers in the ancient world? (YouTube)

I can't say I ever really thought about this too hard. Sure, it crossed my mind from time to time, but I never REALLY sat down and thought about why stories and historical texts didn't seem to have strong mention of something akin to our modern PTSD. Videos like this are the best ones because they open my mind to something I was interested in, but hadn't really thought too hard about. Excellent as always!

Another thing you could look at is the ancient medical texts, they might not focus on battle fatigue as such but did cover things like melancholy etc.. Even if the solution and or problem where associated with demons and magic.

And there's also the issue of reintegrating such people into society, once the conflict is over.
