Bren vs Spandau part two - or Lloyd against the fan-boys
Last one this month, and its a LONG one in which I respond, perhaps too defiantly, to the Spandau fan-boy vitriol that was aimed at me the last time I tackled this subject.

The "apples vs. oranges" - comparison was absolutely brilliant!! That really threw out the fruits and cut to the logic. And thanks for these two very interesting videos. It seems the german high command had an aptitude to issue the wrong tools for the job ( Me 262 as JaBo, SdKfz 181 as offensive break-through tank..bababah...)
Thanks! I'll do a video on the Tiger one day.
Much obliged.

Any chance of a link to that American video you mentioned? The sergeant comparing the two. Can't get the link to work on mobile.
True - though the Enfield loaded 10 rounds as opposed to the k98's 5 rounds which still accounts for a higher volume of fire - but I'd like to say that I am not a historian of the period or a tactical expert of the period and I can't say anything with certainty - only express my opinions on arguments - though I might fail at that as well
I do recall a web-site, now sadly no longer there, called 'Underpants of the Third Reich'.
Adam, on your point 'The base of fire for the allies was semi-automatic rifles vs german bolt actions' certainly isn't true for British & Commonwealth forces, who used Enfield rifles alongside Brens.
I agree with a lot of what you had to say and I won't deny that you've got an uphill battle in the midst of a topic that often has all the intellectual backing of a 'Who's the best warrior' tv show 'Spartans vs SAS vs Sharks' or some such. But I will say that it's a bit hyperbolic to imply the conclusion that because the Axis machine gun was used in the conflict against the Allied machine gun and the Allies won, that one machine gun is quantifiably better. 3 things about that 1) The base of fire for the allies was semi-automatic rifles vs german bolt actions so the volume of fire was higher and according to a lot of accounts, that was a bigger factor than the support weaponry. 2) Are you then saying that the Russian SG-43 was a better weapon than the MG-42 because the Russians beat back the Germans? No other factors there you'd like to include? 3) Should we revisit the superiority of Elephants vs horses based on Agrigentum? - I'm just taking the piss, I agree with you - they are comparable platforms for their day and it's not unreasonable to find the Bren to be superior . One more thing - how silly of you to separate your darks for washing, if you wore highly engineered German darks you wouldn't have to separate them; they just sort of magically do what you expect them to do based on anecdotes you've heard.
