My apprenticeship as a blacksmith - forging a nail
I was the guest of The Cut and Thrust Collective, and spent most of a week there forging a sword, but before I could forge a sword, I first had to learn the craft.

You tried your best! Clearly you were not using a good physical technique, but I did not notice him telling you such. But he was probably observing your form to help you later on with suggestions. Everyone is tentative initially because the heat, dirt, smells and sounds are all very frightening to a newcomer. The professional is physically imposing because you can sense his much greater power and skill and that adds to the intimidation factor. But all in all, he was patient and calm with you, which is perfect for a teacher. Well done!
Wonderful! I bloody love watching a craftsman at work, and I include Lloyd in that comment!
I'd love to try this one day. Awesome stuff Lloyd looking forward to seeing a more confident technique.
I'm impressed. I did something similar a few years back, but I actually made a hook (like a coat hanger for instance). The (real) blacksmith made one in 10 minutes; I'm not going to tell how long it took me... It's a lot harder than you'd think.
Yes, it's quite evident from your wrist-swing that you'd not wielded a hammer much. It will be interesting to compare your later technique.
