First look at the new armour

This video is for patrons only.   You are paying for the armour, so you get to see the first bits first.  I also talk about the different ways I could spend your money.  You have not been charged for this video.

Please simply ride a horse in your armor ;)

For my part I agree with the path you've chosen.

Drive a car in armor: 1. something really pedestrian: Honda, Vauxhall 2. something special: Morgan or Rolls Royce (as a passenger)

So shiny. nice to see some of it all polished and ready to go. And i think the assault course would be a good idea. heck maybe try it in multiple armour configurations to determine what armour is the best for the course. oh, have you had any idea for what helmet you wanted?

S
Steven Wynn · September 19, 2017

Very nice! BTW, If the deerskin gloves don't work out for any reason, I recommend elkskin. It is quite durable, and it stays soft even after repeated soakings or heavy sweating. There are lots of manufacturers on Amazon.

Have fun! Glad to see the armor coming in :D

David Glover-Aoki · September 18, 2017

Your armor is so damn shiny I have just increased my pledge. More shiny things please. Thanks.

S
Scott Tyler · September 18, 2017

Quality content at a fair price, I'm cool with the gloves.

SPEND ALL THE MONEY!

Become a human cannonball in the armour! Get yourself shot out of a siege cannon.

L
Lindybeige · September 27, 2017

That could be expensive.

E
Eden Bellmann · September 17, 2017

Oh and I really would like to know how fast one can dress and undress this whole stuff.

T
Tal Sheynkman · September 17, 2017

Someone already did that. Knyght Errant I think.

Tal Sheynkman · September 17, 2017

Do armored parkour

I feel you should spend the money on the finest armor that you want. Also, maybe you could ride a horse wearing the armor. I think that would be a good video.

L
Lindybeige · September 17, 2017

Yes, I know a couple of people who will know people with a horse. Might be best to go through the re-enactment or jousting routes, though, so that the horses are used to armour.

B
Benedikt Rombach · September 17, 2017

Hi Lloyd, we give you our money, because we enjoy what you do with it. And I really appreciate if your armor is as close to the historic standard as possible (lots of things are unknown, so it will always only be an approximation) - but if you know they used deer, I think that's definitely the way to go. Spend our money to what you like best - this is why we give it to you. And if anybody doesn't like it - come on, it's just a single $.

L
Lindybeige · September 17, 2017

Thanks!

M
Matthew Jackson · September 17, 2017

I definitely approve of the desire to do the armor properly. That said, we send you the money to use as you think best. I would love to know how well (and for how long) you can dance in armor...

L
Lindybeige · September 17, 2017

How LONG - I hadn't thought of testing that aspect. Do you want to see me suffer?

A
Andrew Donoghue · September 17, 2017

Really glad to see the plate coming along, and even more so to hear you getting appropriate gloves for it. Just curious though, on the inside of the armour, is it just black paint, or is it some kind of backing to protect you? Maybe felt?

L
Lindybeige · September 17, 2017

What you saw there was black paint. I map add some wool to improve the grip and cover rivet heads etc.

E
Eden Bellmann · September 17, 2017

As Amanda Palmer, my queen of croudfunding would say: "take the fucking donuts". I give you money because I enjoy what you do. Very much so. I´ve watched every single one of your videos at least three times, they changed some of my thoughts quite a bit and tought me some really interesting stuff. I pay for what I got, and not in advance for something you will eventually do and scorn on you if you´re doing it wrong. Use the money to do everything that makes you happy. And indeed it would rather be silly to spend such an amount of time and money for armour and then having the wrong gloves.

L
Lindybeige · September 17, 2017

Thanks.

A
Alex Myagkov · September 17, 2017

We give you the money, use it as you wish. Maybe go for a leisure full cruise or just a pack of biscuits.

L
Lindybeige · September 17, 2017

Thank you, but for the moment at least I am spending it on things you will see.

J
Jennifer Kingman · September 17, 2017

RE your concern about spending. spend the cash the way you want. i'm glad you're happy with your armor, and the gloves sound perfect.

S
ShadowTiger · September 16, 2017

Buy what you would think is best. In terms of future content: Eating and Sleeping in armor would be cool to see. Perhaps a montage of rolling out of bed, eating breakfast, mowing the lawn... mundane suburban life would be funny to watch.

D
Dr Electro · September 16, 2017

It's amazing how small contributions from many people can add up - kind of like bittorrent. Technology really has changed / is changing the world, making ever-cooler things possible.

A
Alvarin_IL · September 16, 2017

Two suggestions - Get an M.R.I scan and play a game of Twister (with someone not really squishy)

L
Lindybeige · September 17, 2017

Twister, possibly. Swingball, perhaps? MRI scan - no.

P
Paul Spooner · September 16, 2017

For my part, I lean toward the latter attitude. Use the patronage for reasonable extravagance. Exploring the old "knights couldn't get on their horses" fable could be fun (because of much thicker tournament armor?) How about touring some Gothic architecture in Gothic armor? Performing some Gothic music?

O
Oisin Creaner · September 16, 2017

I'm happy to see you "Doing the job properly." Would be interested to see where you're getting the gloves from because I have slightly disproportionate hands and getting custom-fit gloves sounds like it might be a good idea.

Well, as he mentioned he swam in armour before and wouldn't mind doing it again — just not in shiny new armour — it isn't impossible to keep your head above water.

A
Aegox Baal'Thor · September 16, 2017

'Tis beautiful. I'm glad that my few monthly dollars are going to something like this! I do agree with the last bit, make a few videos of tasks that people believe that would be "impossible" while wearing plate. I'd go try climbing some mountains while wearing it, though that might be a bit too much strain. Those adventure courses would be a good bet, though that may prove very difficult in some cases. Perhaps some mounted&armored videos with live footage coming up?

R
Ron Hargrove · September 16, 2017

It makes me happy to think that the paupers pittance I share with you has had a part in bringing you such joy.

I
Ian Munro · September 16, 2017

It's not "my money" anymore--I gave it to you because I like what you do and I want to see more of it. It's entirely up to you what you do with your money--that's what I'm paying to see.

S
Steven Sterlacchini · September 16, 2017

Good to see this project coming together. Personally I patronise creators to help, in some small way, toward the continuation of the channel. I don't really mind how they spend the contributions they receive. So when it's put toward something extremely cool like this, it's very much a bonus. This project has also helped with my decision to final put my money where my mouth is and order something from Dave as well.

A
Albin Fahlström · September 16, 2017

Spend it on the stuff you want, pay your bills; I wouldn't care. As long as you keep videos coming. I patroned so that you could keep doing videos, the first fitting was a pleasant suprise to beging with. I really want to see the real deal! I've had enough of flimsy harnesses, 19th century lead casts and LARP-plate being used to represent actual plate in common peoples minds. Mythbust shit like rising from the ground after being knocked from your trusty steed (bike), lindyhop in it and go to the cinema and try to eat popcorn with the mittens. One thing you have to tape is you wearing it around for an ENTIRE DAY, like a vlog ´so we can know if it is possible. Do vlogs Lindy, Vlogs in FULL GOTHIC PLATE! (Yes I am just as exited as you are.)

O
Ollie Smith · September 16, 2017

Lindyhop in full gothic plate is a great idea, it might help keep people who are only interested in your views on warfare watching you're lindyhop vids.

J
Joseph Fata · September 16, 2017

I don't mind you spending the money at all! But, I am slightly annoyed that there are often uploads to Patreon on the same day that you release the same content on YouTube and that bothers me. Reason? I am kind of assuming that because I am paying that I should get some exclusivity of viewing privilege over that a non paying YouTube viewer. But, what can I do? BTW I suggested to Alec Steele that he give you the Gladius that he just made.

L
Lindybeige · September 17, 2017

In the case of sponsored videos, I cannot release them earlier. In case of non-sponsored ones, it is possible, but a bit or work, and it is like second class post - the effort involved is to slow down the service, not speed it up. I would like to grant patrons privileges, but I don't think that this is a good one.

Z
Zero Rollov · September 16, 2017

Surely you'll make a video demostrating the Lindy Hop in armour!

R
Ron Hargrove · September 16, 2017

I would like to see Lloyd attempting some swing dance moves in full armor. So long as there was no chance of harming the armor. Or Lloyd either, I suppose. Hopefully there will be a fair maiden involved as well.

B
Byte Marx · September 16, 2017

Because of this video, I'm increasing my pledge to you. Also, drive a tank in armour. Be a tank in a tank

L
Lindybeige · September 17, 2017

It isn't easy for a man my size to get into a lot of tanks. This certainly increases the challenge factor.
