Mid-month devlog.

Hey everyone!

This month’s mid-month release will be pushed back by a week because of my annual family trip: barbecue, hot weather, and a bunch of stories told for the tenth time already, you know

After the previous release, I’ve been working on the Prison location. It’s connected to at least two quest elements, which I’ll cover below.

Prison Activities

During imprisonment, Barbarian loses health points every day. To replenish them, you need to eat. Food can be earned by performing various activities.

These mechanics were partially ready — now it’s time to polish them properly.

Food Delivery

Like all inmates, Barbarian is entitled to a food ration, but for some reason she doesn’t receive it. You can work as a food carrier to make sure you actually get your portion.

Blacksmithing

Metalworking is now divided into three separate activities (unlike the original): heating the metal, forging, and sharpening. Each activity adds or subtracts from the blade’s quality.

Depending on how well you do, you can receive a blade of varying quality (this affects whether you get your ration and ties into the orc invasion quest later) or a lockpick that can be used to open different kinds of locks.

Serving the Warden

Barbarian can serve the Warden by trying to guess his preferences. If you keep pleasing him regularly, there’s a chance to earn an early release.

Prison Inmates

In the cells next to yours, there will be other prisoners you can interact with. The guards will react if they catch you doing anything indecent.

The Cook and the Warden each have their own small quests that will be expanded in future updates.

Performance

At the same time, I’m working on making the game run fully and smoothly on Steam Deck. I’m treating it as the main performance target to aim for. I had some issues running the game through the official SDK, but it looks like I’ve got it working now and can continue developing in this direction.

I’m planning to release the update around the 20th of this month. There will be a lot of new and exciting stuff!

Stay Tuned!
