Misplaced | Preview
Misplaced adds lost items your Sim has to go and find. They lose something around the house, get a moodlet, and a Search interaction appears on the furniture. Searching takes time and isn't guaranteed, and failing to find it has consequences.
Base Game Compatible. No packs, XML Injector, or other mods required.
LOSING AN ITEM
A Sim can lose one of four things:
Keys — teens and older
Phone — children and older
Wallet — teens and older
Homework — children and teens
A typical Sim loses something about once a sim-week, and never twice within three days. Items are only lost while the Sim is at home on the lot, never at work or off the lot. A Sim can only have one item lost at a time.
When it happens you get a notification written as the Sim's own reaction, and a moodlet that lasts until they find the item or give up.
SEARCHING
The Search interaction appears on furniture while the Sim has something lost:
Dressers, nightstands, desks, counters, tables, shelves, bookcases, beds, sofas
Custom content is included automatically. The mod matches build/buy categories rather than specific objects.
Each search takes 15–20 sim-minutes. After searching a piece of furniture, that Sim can't search it again for two sim-hours, so they have to move around the house.
ODDS
The first search has a 20% chance of finding the item. Each failed search raises it by another 20%, with the fifth search guaranteed to find it.
IF THEY DON'T FIND IT
After twelve sim-hours the Sim gives up and takes a consequence:
Keys — work performance penalty
Homework — school performance penalty
Phone — out of touch, negative moodlet
Wallet — anxious, negative moodlet
TRAITS
Slob — loses items twice as often
Erratic — loses items twice as often, and stacks with Slob
Neat — loses items half as often
Genius — better chance on every search
INSTALLATION
Place both files in your Mods folder:
OtterStudio_Misplaced.package
OtterStudio_Misplaced.ts4script
The files can be placed one subfolder deep.
Go to Game Options → Other and enable:
Custom Content and Mods
Script Mods Allowed
Restart the game after installing. To uninstall, delete both files — nothing is left in your save.
If you find a bug, let me know what happened and I'll get it patched.

I’ve been enjoying this mod! One thing I’d love to see is more age-specific options for what Sims can misplace. I play pretty realistically, and some of the things that come up for kids/pre-teens, like losing car keys, don’t really fit for me. 😭 It would be cute to have more variety based on age and even things happening around the household. Toddlers could “misplace” toys by carrying them somewhere random, infants could grab things they shouldn’t and leave them somewhere, or a toddler could get ahold of a parent’s phone/keys and nobody knows where they put them. 😂 Cats and dogs getting into things could be cute too, like chewing on homework, carrying off a sock, or knocking something under the couch and causing a Sim to think they misplaced it. For kids, things like toys, school supplies, lunch boxes, backpacks, or homework would make sense. Teens could have phones, headphones, makeup, wallets, keys, etc. Adults could have things related to their jobs too. Like an RN misplacing their badge, stethoscope, work shoes, or something they need for their shift. Even little scenarios like “the dog took your homework,” “your toddler hid your keys,” or “you left your work badge somewhere after getting home” would make the whole idea feel more natural instead of everything simply being randomly misplaced. I think adding more situations like that, especially based on age, pets, jobs, and what’s happening in the household, would make this mod feel SO much more realistic and fun!

It would be awesome to have something (functional cc) to leave the keys or phone, things like that, or for them to apply strategies

Love the mod! However, I am not getting a search option on anything to locate the item missing and my pets are also missing things...
