NEW VIDEO on Nebula: Three Dead Girls I Love

Hi everyone!!!

I've been sitting here trying to write this post for like twenty minutes lmao, which feels appropriate for a project that kept refusing to be smaller than it needed to be.

THREE DEAD GIRLS I LOVE is out now on Nebula. Two and a half hours. My longest video, and the one I'm most proud of. <3

A note on how this one works: this video was made for Nebula, like genuinely made for it, not just placed there. I think it might maaaaaybe come to YouTube eventually, but if you watch it, you might understand why I'm not in a huge hurry to find out what the algorithm or YouTube's monetization system thinks of it lol. In about three months, once Nebula's exclusivity window on it closes, I'll be putting it up here on Patreon for you all as well. I'm sorry for the wait; I really appreciate your patience. In the meantime, please feel free to discuss it in the comments here, share thoughts, ask questions. This community is where I want to talk about it.

(And for credits: I'll be updating those a second time for the YouTube version when that time comes, so if you're here late or upgrade your pledge, the Patreon-exclusive version will reflect that don't worry!!!)

I've been carrying these women around with me for so long that finishing this video felt less like completing a project and more like saying goodbye. Thank you for being the reason it exists.

This is a remarkable video. There's almost nothing better than listening to someone of great intelligence & empathy explain something they care about. I did find the depiction of Caesar's murder a little graphic, though PS "unless you count Asterix & Obelix" AND I ABSOLUTELY DO

You've done these women such a kindness, because now, we're all carrying them around too. I think part of why we find their stories so compelling is that the crises they faced were so impossibly difficult, so maddeningly unfair, that we can't help but imagine ourselves inhabiting their lives. We ask ourselves how we would have felt, what choices we might have made, whether we could live (and die) with the same courage and grace. In wrestling with that, we recognise that each of these women had a distinct spirit that the world couldn't suppress and could only try to extinguish. But we also wonder whether there's some quality of their spirit that's essential in every person. These women are stronger, wiser, and braver than the likes of me--and don't quite share my taste in breakfast foods--and yet there's something we have in common that gives their stories such power to resonate so deeply. Truly extraordinary work. Thank you so much for creating and sharing ❤️

Not to Cleopatra hijack but back in the golden era of the history channel I saw a piece talking about how the asp was later European lore and then further theorizing that Augustus' troops secretly executed Cleopatra rather than drag her back to Rome and face another favorable reaction like Arsinoe since she'd already proven to have an annoying habit of popping back up with armed benefactors. Much easier to say 'oh no! She couldn't bear the shame! How unfortunate we really wanted to watch her like a hawk and figure out what the hell we were going to do with her as a polarizing figure after'.

Incredible video that really has me thinking. I wish you'd included a list of books you mentioned in the description, I really want to check a few of them out but now I have to go scroll back through the video to try to find the titles and authors

If you give me some time, I can probably put together a bibliography for the video! The way I organize my sources is kind of slapdash and messy; I'll usually hyperlink them at the appropriate point in my script to make editing easy rather than putting them all in one centralized place. It's easy for me, but does mean when people ask for a bibliography so they can read more I'm always like "I am so sorry". I should start doing this for viewers who want to do some further research!

I said it on the YouTube post as well, but the best use of Tati Westbrook I have ever seen. Also, I've been digging up Spanish music since I got home from work. Thanks for another great video.
