LEGENDARY INITIAL D CLASSIC SERIES IS BACK! Nationwide Racing, Chat, Voice and Supporter Ranks
Initial D online play is getting one of its biggest TeknoParrot upgrades yet.
Initial D Arcade Stage 4, 5, 6 AA, 7 AAX and 8 Infinity can now connect to TeknoParrot's own Initial D network.
That brings back the connected arcade experience these games were designed around, including nationwide matchmaking, persistent driver profiles, in-store battles, online events, rankings, private races with friends, text chat, voice chat and supporter ranks shown inside the games.

Supported games
The new network supports:
Initial D Arcade Stage 4, Japanese 1.0 Rev A
Initial D Arcade Stage 5, Export 2.0
Initial D Arcade Stage 6 AA
Initial D Arcade Stage 7 AAX
Initial D Arcade Stage 8 Infinity
Nationwide online racing
All five supported games can now run real nationwide VS races over the internet.
TeknoParrot's server recreates the original arcade network services, including matchmaking and card/profile storage, with one backend supporting all five games.
Players connect directly where possible. If that is not possible, the system automatically uses a server relay instead.
No port forwarding is required.
Lag compensation predicts opponent movement to keep races smooth even when internet latency is high. Connections in the 100 to 300 ms range are handled much more cleanly than they would be without compensation.
Offline progress can also carry back into online play.
One network mode
There is no need to keep switching between separate networking setups.
If the TeknoParrot Initial D server is reachable, the game connects online automatically.
If it is unavailable, the game boots into offline or LAN play.
For these five games, the separate TeknoParrot Online lobby is no longer required.
Play with friends
TeknoParrotUI can generate a code for private matchmaking.
Share the same code with your friends and everyone using it will only be matched with each other.
Some networking features will be enabled from the server in stages after launch.
LAN, in-store battles and virtual stores
Local Initial D setups are much easier to run.
Cabinets on the same network can discover each other automatically.
No manual IP addresses, rerouting tricks or complicated network setup.
In-store VS battles now work correctly.
We have also built a Virtual Store system.
Friends in different homes can use the same store code and appear to the games as though their cabinets were connected inside the same arcade.
Virtual Store play has been tested on ID6, ID7 and ID8.
Offline and LAN boots also skip the old 30-second network wait.
In-game text chat
Initial D now has integrated text chat.
Press F2 after an opponent is found and you can chat through the VS screen, loading, the race and the results screen.
Keyboard input currently supports:
English
accented characters
Greek
Russian
Wheel and controller players also get quick-chat messages:
Good luck!
GG!
Thanks!
Sorry!
Use Ctrl+1 to Ctrl+4, or map them to buttons through TeknoParrotUI.
If you type during a race, your car coasts and game controls are temporarily released so keyboard input cannot interfere with driving.
To mute another player, use:
/mute
There are no word filters. Muting is the moderation tool.
Voice chat
Voice chat is integrated too.
Press F3 to cycle through:
Talk + listen → listen only → off
Optional push-to-talk can be configured in TeknoParrotUI.
The microphone is only used if voice chat is enabled, and capture pauses when the game is not the active window.
Voice goes through the TeknoParrot server and is never recorded.
A headset is recommended for now. Echo cancellation for speaker users is coming later.
Supporter ranks inside Initial D
TeknoParrot supporter ranks can now appear directly inside Initial D for other players to see.
Ranks are tied to your TeknoParrot account and verified by the server, so they cannot simply be faked locally.
Supporter ranks are purely cosmetic.
They do not affect:
car performance
class
points
matchmaking
race results
Non-subscribers can still play online.
Depending on the game, opponents can see your rank on:
VS screens and rival information
the store-name line under your name
race HUDs
ID4 and ID5 rankings
ID5 to ID8 attract-screen news tickers
chat name plates
The higher ranks get increasingly distinctive effects, with 5-STAR GENERAL receiving the most dramatic currently available presentation.
Fair online racing at 60 FPS
Online races are locked to 60 FPS.
Running the games above their intended frame rate could previously affect car speed, so online races now use the same frame rate for everyone.
High-refresh monitors are still fine, and the game's own frame-limiter setting does not affect the online lock.
The server also validates races.
Invalid races can be voided, affected card saves can be held, repeat offenders can receive cooldowns, and cheaters or bots can be banned through PC registration.
Built-in card reader for ID6, ID7 and ID8
The card reader now runs directly inside TeknoParrot for ID6, ID7 and ID8.
That means the separate picodaemon program is no longer required.
Cards continue saving in their normal location.
The old red "no cards in stock, ask staff to refill" notice is also gone.
Online content unlocked
The supported games also get their later arcade content online:
ID6 AA: all time-release stages
ID7 AAX: content through Plus C
ID8 Infinity: content through Plus D, including extra cars and courses
ID5: full avatar items
ID4: full avatar and event items
Online events
The server can run scheduled online events, including event races and time attacks with leaderboards.
Also built and being polished are national rankings, ID7 Team Time Attack, ID8 D-coins and rank match, arcade operator modes and an automatically discovered self-hosted LAN server.
Coming later
More Initial D features are already in development:
4-player nationwide TAG battles
online Time Attack ranking records
Japanese, Chinese and Korean chat characters
direct player-to-player voice
echo cancellation for speaker users
These features are coming later and are not part of the current release.
How to get online
Update TeknoParrotUI and TeknoParrot.
Log in at teknoparrot.com and open your Online Profile page.
Request your Initial D PCB ID. One PC can be registered per account. A second PC requires a second account.
Enter it in TeknoParrotUI.
Start the game.
If the server is available, the game connects online automatically.
You can also use Play with friends, enable voice chat and map quick-chat buttons for your wheel or controller.
Initial D is connected again
Five generations of Initial D can now race through one TeknoParrot network, with matchmaking, profiles, LAN play, events, chat, voice and supporter identity built around the games themselves.
This is much closer to the connected arcade experience these titles were originally designed to deliver.
And as always, a huge thank you to everyone supporting TeknoParrot.
Your support lets us keep rebuilding arcade features and infrastructure that disappeared when the original networks went offline.
Pick your car. Find your rival. See you on the mountain.
