Game development poll
The free update exists because some of you told me Part 4 didn't feel finished, and I agreed. Others hoped for specific features, and I agreed to add them. I'll keep working on the free update, then Parts 5 and 6. The only thing in question is the order I do things in. I know most of you are here for Safe Haven, so I want your opinion before I decide the next six months. Since Part 4 was released, I have worked on Stronghold for half the month and the free Safe Haven update for the other half.
Should I focus on Stronghold or keep juggling development on both games?
This poll won't make the final call, but it will weigh on it. Tell me why you voted that way in the comments. If you haven't tried Stronghold yet, I'd also like to hear what has held you back.
Tell me what you think. Don't hold back.

I voted for safe haven because I assume it'd take less time to finish, but if Stronghold could be released faster then I'd vote for that. To be honest anything you release will be something that I read, so I'll definitely be picking up Stronghold once it's finished, but my opinion is that you should focus on whichever is closer to completion. Obviously there's benefits to juggling different projects for an author, but from a reader's perspective (or at least only mine) it only delays the final release of projects that you've anxiously been waiting for. It's better to have something to read and reread to tide us over till your next release.
I started playing your games back before you finished the first Zombie Exodus and I probably have around 300 hours in between the 3 games, mostly on safe haven, but I did play the original stronghold as it was being updated, and I get the want to finish it. The story is there, even if the one on whatever that site was called was a bit different. It's a solid concept, but I say at least finish the update for Safe Haven first and my only real reason I can give is because I can't bring myself to play part 4 till it's done knowing I don't have as much free time as I used to have
300 hours is no joke, man. It's honestly wild seeing so many longtime fans who've been here since the beginning all landing on the exact same page. Totally feel you on the free time part too when life gets busier, having that one definitive, fully polished epic to dive into means something.
Honestly, the reason why I haven’t played through all of stronghold is because of my own incompetence. I placed through the first part, but for some reason when I try to save my progress, it never works so then I have to start over and I don’t have the stamina to play through the entire game in one session, especially since it’s the first time
Hi Jim, First off, I want to say a massive thank you for everything you’ve poured into this universe. I’ve been following Zombie Exodus and Safe Haven for nearly a decade all the way from Southeast Asia—ever since I was 16 years old, and now looking ahead to turning 25 this December. Games like this don't just entertain us they literally grow up alongside us through some of the most defining years of our lives, no matter where we are in the world. I know Stronghold is an exciting new concept, and it shows how creative you are as a developer. But when it comes to the next six months, I strongly believe your focus should be entirely on Safe Haven. Safe Haven is a colossal, deeply intricate sandbox epic. With everything you’ve built—managing up to 26 group characters, complex base upgrades, branching relationships, and years of choices—it’s a masterwork that deserves a completely un-rushed, focused, and cohesive conclusion. Splitting your energy between polishing the free update, Part 5, and Part 6 while trying to jumpstart a whole new game risks stretching a solo developer too thin and diluting the payoff we've all been waiting years for. So many of us in this community have invested a huge part of our lives into our survivors, our junkyard communities, and these characters. As well as replaying a lot of times to discover other choices which for me I replayed it dozens of times and keep coming back to the game whenever I remember haha.... We want to see this story stick the landing more than anything else. Take it home, Jim. Finish the Safe Haven saga right, give Parts 5 and 6 the undivided attention they deserve, and let us see the definitive, brilliant conclusion to the story that got so many of us hooked on ChoiceScript in the first place. Thanks for everything you do!
Honestly, preach. Been following since the old WIP days too, and Safe Haven definitely needs that undivided attention to stick the landing hshshshs literally typed out my exact thoughts. Couldn't agree more with this. Finish the masterpiece first, Jim!
I voted to focus on stronghold. If youre that close to finishing it I think you should knock it out the park and get it released. I imagine it would probably get rid of some stress and get you some extra money as well. I wont lie, I do prefer Safe Haven, I believe its the superior game but its also been in production for quite a bit longer. I dont think that Stronghold is bad either, its just the style is different.
