Namco System 12 - MiSTer - Beta 4
Namco System 12 for MiSTer — Beta 4 is here!
A huge amount of work has gone into game compatibility, GPU performance, CD-ROM support, light guns, racing controls, cabinet I/O, and overall core stability.
🎮 Newly Playable
The following games have been brought up to gameplay since Beta 3:
Kart Duel
Golgo 13 / Golgo 13: Kiseki no Dandou
Point Blank 2
Gunbarl
Ghoul Panic
Truck Kyosokyoku
Techno Drive
Attack Pla Rail
Derby Quiz: My Dream Horse
Kaiun Quiz
Tenkomori Shooting
Toukon Retsuden 3
Um Jammer Lammy NOW!
Super World Stadium 2000 / 2001 are not included yet.
💿 CD-ROM Support
System 12's CD-ROM hardware is now implemented for:
Um Jammer Lammy NOW!
Truck Kyosokyoku
For Um Jammer Lammy NOW!, stage music now streams from the CD and the gameplay charts are synchronized to the disc clock.
Disc images are not included with the release and must be supplied by the user.
🔫 Light Gun Support
Light-gun support is now available across the System 12 gun library:
Point Blank 2
Gunbarl
Ghoul Panic
Oh! Bakyuuun
Golgo 13 / Golgo 13: Kiseki no Dandou
The core supports MiSTer's normalized USB light-gun interface, including Sinden-style camera guns, as well as mouse input.
A new Light Gun OSD section provides:
Crosshair controls
Adjustable white gun border
Aim device selection
Aim sensitivity
Golgo 13 also receives additional support for its analog rifle and scope sensor.
Important: the light gun currently needs to be configured as MiSTer Player 1. For a Sinden, for example:
player_1_controller=16c0_0f02
🏎️ Racing Wheels & Analog Controls
Analog input support has been added for:
Kart Duel
Truck Kyosokyoku
Techno Drive
Attack Pla Rail
The core now implements the H8/3002 A/D converter used by the original hardware, allowing steering, accelerator, brake, and other analog cabinet controls to be driven through MiSTer's analog input system.
Joystick-ramp fallback is also available for users playing without a wheel.
Truck Kyosokyoku additionally gains support for its cabinet controls, including:
Horn
Music Back / Next
View Change
Automatic transmission controls
Kart Duel received several important fixes in the October 13 build and is now playable using either a controller or steering wheel.
🖥️ GPU & Display Improvements
A major focus of Beta 4 has been GPU throughput and System 12 display behavior.
Improvements include:
Faster display-list DMA processing
GPU FIFO fixes
Improved texture-cache fetching
Reduced unnecessary framebuffer reads
Corrected GPU command-buffer reset behavior
These changes significantly improve performance during some of the most demanding System 12 scenes.
🕹️ Cabinet & Input Improvements
Additional changes include:
Fixed DB9 / DB15 arcade-stick buttons
Functional Service Mode / Freeze DIP switches
Mappable TEST and SERVICE inputs
Game-specific button labels
Expanded MRA configuration support
Numerous boot-signature, ZIP-prefix, and configuration fixes
⚠️ Known Issues
A few issues remain:
Golgo 13 can black-screen when loading one particular story challenge.
Mr. Driller US still has flashing during some attract sequences and score-screen corruption.
Derby Quiz, Kart Duel, and Kaiun Quiz can show a flashing horizontal band near the bottom of the screen.
Tekken Tag Tournament still has a two-scanline band at the very top of the picture.
Tenkomori Shooting has incorrect font glyphs in some score panels and captions.
Super World Stadium 2000 / 2001 remain unsupported.
Despite those remaining items, Beta 4 represents a major jump forward for Namco System 12 on MiSTer.
The core has gone from a small group of playable titles to the majority of the platform running, while also gaining CD-ROM streaming, light-gun support, racing controls, cabinet I/O, and major GPU improvements.
Thank you to everyone supporting the project and especially those helping test these builds on real MiSTer hardware.
Enjoy Beta 4!

how do I unlock all characters for Soul Calibur? Tekken 3 and Tag accept the .nvms but Can't seem to get SC's character unlocks going?
Hi, thanks for all your work on the Namco System 12 core. It's great to see it coming together. I'm building a Point Blank cabinet with original Namco guns and would love to play Point Blank 2. The Namco NB-1 core (kyledlester/Namco_NB1_MiSTer) already has it working, so it might be a useful reference. Guns come in through MiSTer's joystick analog axes (player 1 on joystick 1, player 2 on joystick 2), with a mouse option, a crosshair toggle, and gun options that only show for gun games. I'm happy to test with original arcade guns on a 15 kHz CRT if that would help. Thanks again!
Has anyone tried running the Um Jammer Lammy Now core as part of the update? I downloaded the archived disc image to use with the core. The game boots and appears to work, but selecting Beginner difficulty and starting the game plays “Keep Your Head Up” instead of loading the first stages music, aka the Chop Chop Master Onion’s song. I tried two different disc images, so I suspect the System 12 core is incorrectly queuing the audio or maybe I'm missing something obvious.
i have the same problem
I’d love Namco arcade gun support please.
Is there anyway that Y/C output can be enabled on your cores?
How do I convert the Um Jammer Lammy CD .chd (ujlnow.chd) to .bin?
THANKS
just an fyi Truck Kyosokyoku doesnt have sound when it starts. i dont see an option to enable attract sound in the test menu, so I assume it should be there. All other sounds appear to be working after starting the game.
Would it be possible to provide a MiSTer Downloader database for your cores, perhaps installing them in a dedicated folder such as _Arcade/XelaNotpu ? With a database, users could manually add the necessary entry to their downloader.ini, and then Update All would automatically download your new SE cores and any future updates directly from your GitHub repository. I think it would be a very convenient way for everyone to keep your releases up to date. Just a suggestion, of course! Thanks again for all your great work on these cores!
I tried the GunCon2 with the core they released this time. The aim was surprisingly accurate. https://youtu.be/J46CSEgqjCw?si=vLhRA5Y3J3-qScLE
Nice update, keep up the fantastic effort.
Thanks for the update; it seems SoulCalibur cannot load or create the .nvm file.
I have seen something that looks like new slowdown in Tekken 3
this is awesome. dare you to add Juusei no Requiem
Wow, this is nice
Thanks for the update! Can we hope for saved highscores for Mr. Driller in the future?
Mr. Driller, Tenkomori and Aqua Rush all keep their high-score table in ordinary RAM, not the EEPROM, so it never reaches nvram. The real cabinet loses those scores at power-off too. Emulators like MAME use hiscore.dat as a workaround. Adding this to the list. Thank you for your support!
Can we use guncon1 with the light gun support?
I know this game is not perfect yet but can you rotate the screen 90 degrees so I can play Tenkomori Shooting in your next build! Thanks in advance! 🙏
Rotation support will be added to the next supporter poll to vote on.
OMG Tenkomori Shooting! thank you so much man🙏
Killer updates!! Most of them work, just cant get um jammer to load.. it sits at the notice screen...
You need to load the .img file manually after the core loads. This is a limit in the mister framework for all arcade titles that support CD and HDD images.
Thanks, now that's an update..
Fantastic news, thank you!
Excellent update. Any plans to open source this release?
Wow, nice update this Wednesday tea time! 😉
Wow, great update!
