UPDATE: Hair Control v1.4

Today's v1.4 release brings two new features:

Age Filter (on by default)

Sims younger than Adult won't spawn with salt-and-pepper, gray, or white hair anymore. It applies at spawn and on age-up; so no more teenagers going prematurely gray, and your townies look their actual age.

Turn it off with dsn_age_toggle in the cheat console, or AGE_FIX=0 in the mod's config file.

Texture Matching (off by default)

This one I'm even more excited about.

Hair Control's style randomizers didn't respect hair texture, so Sims with afro or curly hair often ended up with the more prevalent straight textured styles. Roll the dice enough times and everyone drifts toward straight hair, because that's most of what's in the pool, so Sims were slowly losing their natural texture as a side effect of getting restyled on the fly. That's not what a randomizer should do.

Texture matching fixes it. Afro-textured Sims get afro styles, straight-haired Sims get straight styles. And the first time the mod sees a Sim it records their original texture as a permanent anchor, so they never gradually drift out of it no matter how many times they're randomized. Braided and straightened afro styles count too, since they still carry the afro tag.

You still get all the variety you desire. It just doesn't come at the cost of erasing a Sim's genetics.

Turn it on with TEXTURE_MATCH=1 in the config. If you're upgrading from an earlier version: run dsn_build_hair_list once after you update; the texture matching feature needs the rebuilt catalog to work.

One last thing to note: this relies on EA's own texture tags, and some of EA's hairs are mistagged: a few braided, Bantu-knot, and loc'd afro styles are labeled Straight in the game data. If a Sim's original hair is one of those, they'll anchor to whatever texture EA labeled it. That's in EA's data, and the mod does not seek to or purport to fix that. Similarly, if you have CC hair and texture matching enabled, you may see some unexpected results depending on how the creator tagged their hairs.
