At eighteen, Shu Wan falls for Meng Huaijin, an older, powerful man whose cold and distant nature makes it clear that romance has little place in his life. Knowing exactly what she is walking into, she pursues him anyway — until years of waiting for an answer finally convince her to leave. Four years later, now working as a journalist, Shu Wan returns to Beicheng after her friend Lan Lan is framed, bringing her back into Meng Huaijin's orbit. The distance they once maintained begins to collapse as they are repeatedly drawn toward each other, but the return of Shu Wan's childhood friend Zhou Ze adds another complication. This time, however, Meng Huaijin is no longer the man being pursued: after letting her walk away once, he finds himself beginning a long-overdue chase to win her back.
