Coming soon: DeepSkin - Subsurface Scattering & Transmission
For a while now I've been working on something new: DeepSkin.
It started as a small plugin just so I could have subsurface scattering in my own scenes, but the deeper I got, the more I wanted it to do. And so it has grown into something much bigger: a full skin shader + plugin with backlit transmission, tessellation, painting your own regions directly onto the skin, adjusting bones in the arms/hands, and a lot of quality and performance options so it can look good for renders or screenshots, or run light in VR.
Along the way it also ended up fixing some long-standing VaM annoyances with clothing: transparent clothing finally casts transparent shadows, and clothing layers (like make-up, lip layers, tattoos as clothing items) blend properly with the skin instead of fighting it.
A quick note on this one: DeepSkin will be exclusively available to my Patreon supporters. That's a first for me, as my plugins have always been free, and they'll stay that way. Plugins like MorphSculptor aren't going anywhere, and I'll keep making free tools like that for the community. But DeepSkin is a different beast. It's grown into something far bigger than I set out to make, with a huge amount of time and work behind it, and it adds a real jump in visual quality. For a plugin like this, releasing it to the people supporting my work feels fair, and it's what lets me justify pouring this kind of time into it.

another wonderful thing... good job !
Can't wait for this plugin!
Will this be a session plugin or a person atom plugin? I usually use SSS from Skynet and have it as a session plugin is truly great QoL. Looking forward to this! More SSS options are always welcome.
It can definitely be added as a session plugin as well! When you do, you have individual controls for each character in the scene. I also have a save and load preset system, plus being able to set a preset as default.
It's crazy how for years we only had one SSS option that was locked behind a high paywall and rarely updated, and now within the year we will have multiple quality options. SSS elevates character models and the experience so much I am very much looking forward to this!!
I agree, and ever since I started releasing scenes I've hated how I couldn't use SSS in them. So I've put a lot of work in making my own so I finally can. And I'm making sure that so many of the issues I had with them are fixed in my version.
Seem fantastic. i use SSS from Hunting Sucubus for CUAs, will it work with it (or maybe it will also work for cuas? Will it work for Alt Futa plugin(now by RunDolf couse orginal one stop being developed)? when will it be to download?
Regarding the CUAs: it currently only works for characters and so it will not work on CUAs on release, but I can definitely add it in a future update. While I personally never use Alt Futa, I just tested it with RunRudolf's plugin and it works fine. I don't have a specific day yet, but it should release this upcoming week.
:o
nice. Is the transparent shadow part of the skin shader or does it cast transparent shadows onto anything?
It is not part of the skin shader. The plugin replaces the clothing item's shadow caster with an alpha-aware one, so the faded shadow also show on walls, floors, skin, other characters. When I was working on adding compatibility for scalps and thin clothing items like make-up and lip layers to be included in the SSS, I noticed that some of the transparent parts where still casting shadows, unless it was at an absolute value of 0. So I built the shadow transparency into the plugin next to the option to include a clothing item in the SSS.
"Along the way it also ended up fixing some long-standing VaM annoyances with clothing: transparent clothing finally casts transparent shadows," HOOOOLLLLYYYYY FUUUUUUCK!!!!! There is a god!! And his name is Mxx !!!
🤣🤣 Because of your enthusiasm, I made quick comparison photos to show the faded shadows and added it to the post. ❤️
