Amazing interview. Really appreciate this ongoing series; as a former (and now deprogrammed) evangelical who was fed pro-Israeli propaganda from birth, this is an area about which I’m woefully ignorant. Hope it’s also not too inappropriate to fangirl out, but you guys are the cutest. It’s a joy to see your faces, despite the grim content. Thanks for all you do.

Amazing discussion- honestly the most lucid and even keel analysis that I’ve seen of the Gaza war anywhere. Once you recognize how little regard Biden or Blinken have for the lives of Palestinians- and how stupidly they regurgitate the same old bromides about a “two state solution” and “humanitarian corridor”- it’s hard to retain any faith in them. The only thing worse than being led by scoundrels is being led by stupid scoundrels (with the salt in the wound being the fact that both men clearly know so little about Arabs or their voters that they genuinely believe that they’ll all buy their lies.)

Thanks for uploading the video so quickly. It was another much-needed episode with a great guest. Though I can't help but feel depressed. I remember the term "roadmap towards peace in the Middle East" being tossed around when I was young. But just like Apple Maps, any roadmap now just feels like being led off a cliff, Thelma and Louise style.
There will never be peace in the Middle East so long as Israel exists... that's the whole point of Israel's existence. I just wonder if anyone in the ruling class actually understands that anymore. Like, the empire runs on rails to such an extent that I doubt if anyone in charge actually realizes the role they play (or are failing to play) in its operation. I'm sure most people involved in the peace process were sincere and had benign intentions, and they probably don't even have a clear idea of why they keep failing.

Mouin Rabbani is an absolutely devastating interlocuter. His calm, measured tone and precise locution is at stark odds with the horrifying reality that he describes, such that the effect over time is of a creeping dread that seeps into one's stomach. The reader’s picks in that NYT article from 2015 are testimonial evidence of what Rabbani just said about democrat’s feeling offended by Bibi’s abuse of Obama.

Right out of the gate, Bibi showed disrespect to the Obama administration by announcing the expansion of settlements on the day of Biden's visit as VP in 2010 (especially egregious given Biden's unqualified support for Israel over the years -- it was a blatant sign of disrespect). In 2012, Netanyahu effectively campaigned for Mitt Romney. Of course there was also the infamous speech at the Capitol in 2015 in an effort to sabotage the Iran nuclear deal. In 2021, Biden's people returned the favor by backing an opposition coalition to Netanyahu, which lasted for about 16 months. The sense that I get is that Netanyahu is probably a huge racist and/or he saw political advantage domestically in acting like a huge racist towards Obama (probably both). Unfortunately, the problem in the Israel government is much larger than Netanyahu or the Netanyahu coalition.
