The magic bullet is essentially a red herring. There's much more compelling evidence. Trueanon, Aaron Good, and Ben Housetrotter did an excellent multi-part expose on Oswald's military/CIA asset background, contacts, history and agency politics, the commissions, Ruby, and the assassination itself. With what we know now, I think it's pretty clear that the CIA killed JFK.

Three fascinating articles in the Economist today, all in chorus with Thomas Friedman's piece last weekend in the Times. Negative tone, fundamental admission that attrition and a long war is the only way forward. Their solution: indigenous Ukrainian military industrial production. Issues of potential Russian missile attacks on industrial sites, indigenous Russian industrial capacity, and 0 history of Ukrainian industrial capacity since USSR are brushed aside. They really have no plan, truly incredible. Sorry, they do have one silver bullet solution: "bolder sanctions, such as expulsion from the Paris Olympics". That should do it!

Who would work in these theoretical Ukrainian factories? I would think every young able-bodied person still in the country has already been conscripted at this point. They didn't have a lot of military-aged people remaining to begin with. Both Ukraine and Russia are severely depopulated countries, and that loss of manpower will hurt Ukraine worse than Russia because their population was smaller to begin with. If Russia could maintain the will to fight indefinitely, they could probably win the war eventually by just waiting for everyone left in Ukraine to either die or move away...

Crillo? However it’s spelled gives me the creeps. It’s the bad acting, glee, and flat affect that just sends warning signals. I’d seen her once or twice before the video y’all talk about. I figured she was there to just piss off the Russians given that she’s trans, but there’s something far more unsettling to her. Also 100% she’s a right-winger. She probably got sick and tired of her group shitting on her. They’re not so fun when you’re the target. Hopefully Russia does us all a favor there

S

At one point they mention an Economist (iirc) article where the USA mentions they have been helping the Ukraine find targets in Russia. Does anyone know which article they are talking about? Quick googling did not find it.

Armenia is in a really difficult geopolitical situation, thanks for shedding light on it. Mark, you touched on an important point about how Azerbaijan now claims all of Armenia; this is but one example among many spurious claims Azerbaijan, as well as Turkey, has tried to mainstream in the academy, and are ones they have used to indoctrinate their people in order to inculcate even more extreme hatred for Armenians in their peoples. The reality is there are archives full of literature, studies, published works, etc., that completely contradict this absurd propaganda. People who spend time studying the region often fail to factor this into their analysis and thereby fail to realize that one side’s true intentions are genocide (Azerbaijan), whereas the other’s is trying to hold on to what little piece of their indigenous land they have left (Armenia).

The media self-censorship with regard to the flood in Derna is infuriating. I read an article that mentioned something about how Libya has been subjected to “foreign interference” but didn’t name the foreigners or describe the interference. What I wouldn’t give for a journalist to ask Clinton how she feels about her role in this the next time she does a media appearance for whatever stupid Netflix limited series she’s working on with her dumb daughter. But alas, it will never happen.

The Warren Commission Report was never intended to convince anyone - most people never bought it. The point was everybody from LBJ on down was told to get in line with it, or else face dire consequences. Maybe your career gets kneecapped. Maybe you get labeled a conspiracy crank. Or maybe you end up shooting yourself twice in the back of the head.

The guys who put up some fencing in my yard uncovered some ground wasps and, long story short, that was how one of them discovered he was allergic. He turned out ok but he insisted having his cousin drive him to their local doctor, about an hour away, and he was definitely having a bad reaction all the way there. I truly did not know bees / wasps etc could be *in the ground*; what I think happened is they took up residency in a vacant rabbit warren and that was that. But to reiterate what a lot of folks have already said: ground wasps are SONS OF BITCHES who need zero provocation to attack, unlike most of the other flying stinging guys. My solution wasn't to DIY go after them but to have an exterminator / pest control pro come by. My understanding is that a civilian can get such-and-such spray from the hardware store and whatnot, but the pest control folks have the Real Shit. So they came by that day and the following day and pumped some chemical weapons into those spots. Haven't had a problem since. Also, this guy Landis was *behind* the JFK car? That detail alone is giving me the fantods.

M
Mark Ames · September 18, 2023

Yeah I only understood that ground wasps are a real thing a year or so ago. Now I know it for an intimate fact.

The topic of JFK assassination was very well covered by Aaron Good in his American Exception podcast (https://www.patreon.com/americanexception/). I keep suggesting to invite him to RWN. The story of JFK's brain alone plus a big piece of him skull found later, when looked closely, IMO leaves no reasonable doubt that the official story is a coverup conspiracy. Aaron is a recovering academic who stands on the shoulders of giants like Peter Dale Scott and C. Wright Mills. His dissertation turned into AE book is a must read. The Armenian conundrum I think is more complicated than it seems on the surface. The explanation that made the most sense to me is that after the disastrous 2020 war most Armenians realized that there's no way to save Artsakh/Karabakh from being reabsorbed by Azerbaijan. There's no legal basis to justify its independence, and the Azerbaijan/Turkey/NATO alliance is not something Armenian diaspora can turn around. Hence, they want to sell out Artsakh, but somehow without losing face and honor (which is still a relatively big deal in the Caucuses). Pashinian's role is to do that. That's why they didn't kick him out after the lost war. He needs to do the dirty job of betraying Artsakh. Blaming Russia is just a smokescreen. I can't know for sure if this theory is correct, but it explains the otherwise seemingly illogical behavior of Armenians.

M
Michael Schworetzky · September 18, 2023

RFK took the brain. This has been known since the House Select Committee on Investigations, where the secretary who’d been put in charge of the brain and a bunch of other samples testified to that effect.

Regarding the magic bullet theory, I remember seeing this documentary decades ago which used forensic recreation of the shooting using the Zapruder film. This is the piece of the documentary where they argue that the bullet path was not magic or unusual if you account for the seat heights and the positions of the people in the car visible in the Zapruder film. All I can say is the version of this movie that I saw didn't have Peter Jennings narrating. The sound of Peter Jennings voice makes my nipples harder than pepperonis. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8AlKUJHXYxQ

Interestingly, ten years ago on the 50th anniversary of JFK's assassination, a different Secret Service agent came forward and told the exact same story as Paul Landis is telling now. Is this an example of credit seeking in the same way as multiple SEALS claiming to be the one who killed Bin Laden? Hell if I know. But it's yet another strange anamoly in a case that's full to overflowing with them.

W
William · September 17, 2023

Re: jfk - the RFK assassination actually does a better job of proving a conspiracy to kill JFK than anything surrounding JFK. Sirhan is easily proven not guilty and the motive for killing RFK is clear - stop him from getting to the bottom of his brother’s death. Anyways, to paraphrase Mr. X in JFK (1991), the who and the how is just a distraction to keep you from asking why, and asking who benefits

Good episode & interesting take on the Kim & Putin meeting - looks like Russia does have options - who'd'a thunk... Those yellow-jacket wasps are bastards - we call them German wasps in NZ. I've had more than enough run-ins with them, especially when mowing fields. Not sure how effective spraying them from 20 feet away will be, so here's the recipe I used for getting rid of them. The entrance to their nests isn't that wide, about four or five inches, usually. So: 1. Get a bottle of wine. 2. Drink it as the sun goes down - this reduces common sense and raises bravado to the levels required for the task at hand. 3. Half or 3/4 fill the empty bottle with petrol. 4. Dress according to how brave you now feel - boots, trousers, long-sleeved shirt and gloves & hat in my case, and get a torch. 5. Approach the nest and quickly shine the torch on the entrance - there should be very little activity once it's dark. 6. Walk rapidly up to the nest and jam the bottle into it, top-down, so the petrol runs out. 7. Run away, waving hands around head and neck. Shrieking is optional. Nearly all of the wasps will be killed by the petrol fumes; there may be a few stragglers left outside but they can't get in the nest, anyway, and will soon disappear. Good luck!

The person in the cover photos propaganda has been popping up on the various Russian pro war telegrams. And it’s wild to wonder whose it aimed for. I mean, it’s in English, but it’s so over the top 1940s cartoony that if people weren’t really dying, it’d be hilarious. But ya, something about a trans person being used for caliper measuring level view of “enemy” humanity. Ya, creepy fucking vibes from this particular war enjoyer and freedom defender.

To Ames's wife's credit, some researchers are finally checking to see how much awareness and intelligence insects actually have, and it turns out the answer is "Quite a lot more than anyone assumed." This British guy gave bees tiny balls to play with and they were having fun rolling them around. They're also capable of assessing how unpleasant a task is based on prior experience, and pushing through personal discomfort for the sake of greater gain. Social insects also like to get drunk and party. It's not a subject that most scientists are interested in researching, though, since they use insects for a lot of experiments that involve insane cruelty and if bugs can feel then there would be ethical problems. So this is an instance where the animal rights advocates are absolutely right, and the scientific community is just reluctant to give up their test subjects. Also, Ames's story about the wasp attack amused me because the exact same thing happened to my older brother decades ago when he was mowing the lawn. In fairness to those wasps, though, they didn't attack him until he ran over their hive with the lawnmower.

The "magic bullet" is not "completely intact." It's crushed inwards like a soda can, and there's a big chunk of lead missing. You don't see this if you look at the pictures featured in shitty conspiracy theory books, but it's obvious if you look at shots that also show the bullet's backside (tried to post a link to an image and failed, just google it and you'll see what I mean.) More broadly, the bullet is not "magic" at all. Not only does it follow a straight path if you actually look how Kennedy and Connally were positioned, its the only explanation that fits the physical evidence. Doctors pulled lead fragments out of Connally's wrist, which wouldn't have happened unless the bullet hit while it was perpendicular to the bone. Modern ballistics tests using gel dummies show that is exactly what would have happened: the bullet would have begun to yaw and tumble through the air after it exited Kennedy. If it hit Connally first, it wouldn't have, and he wouldn't have those lead fragments in him, magic or no. I am a bit of an obsessive on this topic. I feel about Kennedy the way Jimmy Hoffa does in The Irishman. Even if you think I'm offbase with my opinion, just know my hate is pure.

a
a clash of purple · September 17, 2023

shrug. Getting bogged down in the details of the assassination is part of how the Warren Commission covered up whatever really happened. Rather like 9/11, in that way. Alan Dulles and the CIA obviously did the Kennedy assassination, just like the Saudis conspired with the Bush administration to do 9/11, just like the entire Anglo ruling class killed Jeffrey Epstein. The details and provable facts don't matter, because the people responsible covered their tracks so well that you'll never find a smoking gun or whatever.
