Radio War Nerd #294 — Blowback: Islamic State in Khorasan (IS-K)

Recorded: August 31, 2021

The War Nerd and Ames try to answer the two most important questions about IS-K that no one seems interested in asking, or answering: Which interests bankrolled IS-K, and what strategic purpose(s) does IS-K serve?

We reference Antonio Giustozzi's excellent book "The Islamic State in Khorasan".

Maps:

*IS's Khorasan plan

*IS-K training camps, June 2015

*IS-K battles with the Taliban, 2017-2018

Total time: 1:17:49

Sweet Jesus. "Jaques de Mollet, thou art yet again avenged" https://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2021/05/webinar-with-michael-hudson-a-4000-year-perspective-on-economy-money-and-debt.html

I would also like to throw in a vote for a Michael Hudson episode or series. John has brought up his purported ignorance of money several times lately, and Hudson seems like the ideal remedy. I know he gets brought up a lot on the RWN Facebook page as well.

In fact Michael Hudson quotes Mark and Yasha in his book "Finance As Warfare", on page 5, footnote 4.

On a side note re: Follow The Money. I think a great guest who would fit right in to the War Nerd Universe is Michael Hudson. John and he may have been separated at birth but he went into economics instead of rhetoric. He can take the otherwise insufferable language of economics and turn it into simple "why didn't I think of that?" type of rhetoric. Pick any of his interviews or lectures on youtube for a looksee. Now I have to get back to managing the Sod Farm here. Yyyep.

There you go, it took him two days since after he sold his house of pay later. He setup a deal for future income where he helps find solution (good back office would be cheaper) at a auction price...(*)

Check out Financial Times Rachmann Review Podcast on Afghanistan. Each point made there has been made by you guys before, but interesting that it now seems to go mainstream. https://open.spotify.com/episode/6PvebdZrYqpna8bWPl5Zu3?si=uzwlOK_yRW-sXAAlcsnJGA&utm_source=copy-link&dl_branch=1

When Biden says the US will continue to strike IS-K in Afghanistan via drone, how does that relate to the strategic benefit to the Western/NATO empire if IS-K continues to grow? Will the strikes just be minor and ultimately inconsequential to provide a kind of cover while our proxies continue to fund IS-K? Will the strikes be said to be targeting IS-K and instead hit other targets? Or, is Biden actually not in line with the strategy that the majority of the Blob would prefer?

I don't think a majority of the Blob agrees on anything except bigger budgets forever, unconditional support for Israel and Saudi Arabia, & unconditional hatred for Iran and China. These are really dumb, corrupt people, and I think they're too deluded to come up with much in the way of coherent strategies. As far as IS-K goes, as long as the brand is useful and there's money behind it, it doesn't really matter how many people affiliated with them are killed. Biden can do all the serious drone strikes he wants to salve his ego, it won't do anything to prevent IS-K from fulfilling the role that intelligence agencies have for it.

This is the kind of info that should be clipped into a 2-3 in segment (with captions etc) for your YouTube channel. I swear, it's the best way for the War Nerd to gain serious traction.

Glad your mom is doing better Mark! Surgeons never explain that the hard part isn't the surgery, it's the recovery after the surgery. Hope she continues to do well. Great episode, thanks guys. There's not enough "follow the money" journalism, glad you guys are keeping it real. Your Afghanistan coverage has been fantastic, please keep it up!

Isn't it odd, how no mainstream hacks (BBC, Grauniad etc) have bothered to ask this simple, bleeding obvious question? No wonder people hate journos so much. :)
