Hey there, I forget which episode this was but I think Mark talked about the Weather Underground being cited to justify higher sentencing in criminal cases. I was wondering if he had a source for that that he could send over
please less reading of old, clueless, and wrong beltway articles from people i don't give a shit about. focus on giving us facts that we can't get from other sources.
If you scroll right back to the first RWN patreon posts it appears there as an article with a download link.
Thanks!
I found it when I first signed up, no idea where it I found it now though, sorry...
it's a post, you have to find it and download it.
I see the $10 pledge promises the War Nerd Dispatches ebook, but I never received my copy. Also if there are audio fidelity issues as it seems there are frequently are, why not record the audio locally on both sides of the exchange and then merge them. I can't imagine it would cost more than $10 to hire someone to combine two audio tracks depending on who is talking. Keep up the great reporting!
Great episode!
The reason journalists like Sullivan succeed has nothing to do with being right or wrong. They are there to find an ideologically acceptable way to package current events for their constituencies and readers. In many cases, this involves exactly how to distort the situation so as not to challenge and certain set of a priori assumptions, theories, and ideas which form the basis of what holds their political group together. People look to pundits and columnists primarily for confirmation that their thoughts and beliefs are correct, or at least are conformed to the group which they consider themselves members. Being correct can often be a serious problem, if and when it threatens important part of the assumptions and idea I mentioned previously.
There is a good (as in accurate) portrayal of the Japanese Student Movement in the 60s and 70s turning into a crazy cult/power struggle in the movie "United Red Army" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Red_Army_%28film%29
The difference in scentensing between black and white is actually smaller than between men and women
