Radio War Nerd EP #145—V.S. Naipaul, Wars & Politics
Recorded August 14, 2018
Trinidad-born writer V.S. Naipaul died. He was a great comic writer, with rare early insights into the sorts of insurgencies and politics that we talk about on Radio War Nerd. So we decided to devote a special show to Naipaul's writings and career.

Agree with some of the above comments that this is a very good episode. Thoroughly enjoy your discussions about writing and literature.
Writing in an "alarmist" manner about the rise of Islamism around 1980 or so was actually rather prescient, no?
Regarding the Genoa bridge collapse, which jives with my own understanding of the technologies involved: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oLwf4_bXOc0
Great ep guys. Love when you get into literature.
Great episode so far. Disagree with one of the posts above, I believe this sort of thing is totally in the War Nerd's wheelhouse. Maybe the title of the podcast is being taken a bit too literally? I enjoy all the writing talk, especially as they place the stories and the author inside of a wider political context.
This was an excellent episode and in my opinion reveals the deep quality of this podcast.
Okay. I say this all constructively as a paid subscriber. I didnt know who Naipaul was but i thought he was going to be related to war nerdery. But i was wrong and i am not sure why an entire podcast episode was done on him. On another note, i really enjoyed episodes that covered pre-industrial wars like the episodes on Tang China and the episodes on the imjin wars and the episode on 30 years war, the Ottoman wars etc. I would like to see more of that stuff. There is a lot of cool stuff like that to do more episodes on. An episode on the Mamluks of Egypt would be cool who were elite slave soldiers that took over the country and beat back a Mongol invasion and destroyed Crusader ststes.
Can you please do a show about the 100 year anniversary of the 100 days campaign and the end of World War I? You will be shocked how few people know anything about World War I or the fact like 115,000 us soldiers died in like three months.
