Radio War Nerd EP #128 — The War On Yemen w/Nasser Arrabyee
Guest: Nassar Arrabyee, Yemeni journalist & documentary producer
Recorded April 5, 2018
The War Nerd talks to Yemeni journalist and documentary producer Nassar Arrabyee from his bomb-damaged home in the capital Sanaa, about the American-backed Saudi-UAE war on his country. Presidents Obama and Trump helped unleash a war that's become the world's worst humanitarian crisis, with over 1 million cholera victims in a deliberate artificial famine — and the western press corps and human rights community seems remarkably uninterested. Meanwhile, Yemen's Houthi rebels, based largely in the north and west of the country, have made mincemeat of the Saudis. Nassar explains what the war looks and feels like from inside the killing zone, and why the Houthis have broad-based support.
At 58:31, Ames and Brecher discuss the latest in war news: Another Saudi massacre of Yemenis, followed by Yemeni missile strike on Saudi oil tanker . . . the Novichok Follies . . . Theresa May praises dictator Sisi as a democrat . . . Will Kabila step down? . . .

Agree with all of your suggestions here that we repost an open version of the interview with Nasser. Will be doing that shortly.
I think you should make this interview available to everybody, not just Patreons. It was really sad to hear the desperation in Nasser’s voice that nobody in the West about hearing the story from the Yemeni point of view, I think this will help at least to make more people aware.
I second this.
Good interview although I was hoping for more info on the southern movement or the situation in Aden in General as it has become very obscure lately. Here's what I know: At the start of the saudi campaign the Houthis had Aden but then secretly agreed to hand it over to the southern movement since the houthis had very little support in the city (they proved to be very wise strategist early on in the conflict). Then AQ & isis moved in when the coalition took over. The UAE is building a permanent airforce base in suqatra (which was considered a nature reserve before the war). I read somewhere the plan is to turn Aden into a complementary port to Dubai or to undermine it so as it doesn’t become a competition. The Emiratis abhor the muslim brotherhood hence they’re supporting all other forces but their situation there isn’t looking too good. They’ve lost countless military personnel to assassinations in Aden alone. Jihadis and Ikhwanis are ganging up on them big time so they’ve put all their forces in and around Aden and have stopped contributing ground forces to fighting the Houthis. Politically the UAE has its own puppet ruling council unrelated to the Hadi govt. Then there’s the southern movement that supposedly descends from the old communist regime of southern Yemen. They appear to have dropped any communist related ideology and just seem to be a superficial secessionist movement. Very little good news available out there and so much more I’d love to know about. Yemen has to be one of the most interesting countries in Arabia. Any source you guys can get on the country would be highly appreciated.
Truth is, you already know more than I do and unfortunately I don't have any sources on Southern Yemen. If you come up with a good one, I'd appreciate hearing about it.
I really wonder if it's worth it for the Yemen ppl. They don't have a hope
Great interview. I'm just wondering if RWN ever thought of splitting up the interviews and the commentary second part after the interlude into two different podcasts on the feed? I feel like, given that the podcast is quite long, it would be easier to navigate in two parts (I never listen to it all in one sitting). Also it would be easier to refer other people to specific interviews or the weekly news round up part, who might not have time to listen to the whole thing or might be put off by a 2-3 hour podcast. Either way, great podcast
No the longer the better
Great work, interview reminiscent of Edward R Murrow from London!
Good interlude, Brenden.
Yes, when are we going to get an interview with Brenden on why he's got such lovely sounds?
Here's Litvinenko's dad, saying that Western intel agencies killed his son and that Russia or Putin had nothing to do with it. https://youtu.be/bSTydJE8ORY I used to believe that Litvinenko was a Russian job until this. Now I don't believe this or Skripal. What say you Mark Ames ...
Whataboutism: What racist Russophobic commenterate call comparative analysis & context when hypocritical agitprop exposed.
