Guests: Lily Lynch and Brian Mier
Recorded: October 27, 2026

It's rare we can cover positive news. So this episode we talk to Brian Mier about Lula's come-from-behind election win in Brazil over Trump's anointed minion, and we talk to Lily Lynch about the stunning election victory in Serbia by the mass democratic movement Student List over longtime ruler Alexandar Vučić.

First - we talk to Brian Mier about Lula's victory and all the efforts by Americans - Trump, Meta, Glenn Greenwald, New York Times - to prevent it.
At 54:20 - Music interlude by Brendon Anderegg. Check out music from his group Mountains here
At 56:00 - Lily Lynch joins us to discuss the Student List victory in Serbia.

Huge respect and admiration to the student movement in Serbia for their victory over an entrenched ''regime'' if ever there was such a thing. That said, everything I have heard so far makes me very pessimistic as to their chances of enshrining some kind of durable left or anti-imperialist politics as the new status quo in Serbia as they seem to just be walking headlong into all of the mistakes of the last two decades of leaderless, rhizomatic, big tent, capacious yet empty 'anti-corruption' political movements. I hope I'm wrong.

Please consider a follow up episode on Serbia some time in the future! Excited to see what happens! What the heck does happen to all the deals and vehicles and infrastructure of corruption?

Despite all the little cartoon diversity graphics with purple and orange skinned figures in their corporate HR modules and marketing, Silicon valley have revealed themselves to be probably the slimiest cohort of fascists among the ruling class in the west. It's really laid bare when you live in SF, the vibe is so anti-human and alienating, and comes as no surprise given the companies all these techie robot yuppies are working for and what they are doing to corral human souls into their apparatus.

The fact of "hooligans" as default paramilitaries, all over the world, gets me every time, because in America we just use them to die in "terrorist attacks"

Proud Boys are our wannabe hooligans. Would love to see PB square off against Red Star hooligans, rather than Portland hippies.

I love how hard Brian rips on people. He is hilarious and man this Brazil election is insane. Nothing of this nasty Meta meddling has made it to the US. So glad y’all got Lily Lynch on again, she is such a great writer and guest. Her Serbian reporting has been some of the best. So much to learn for US organizing from Serbian student movement. Lots in common with Joe Costello’s ideas around organizing.
