Radio War Nerd EP #639 — Soviet-Finnish Wars, Pt. 4: Finland's Nazi Crimes + Gulf Oil Flows, feat. Annibale
Guest: Annibale
Recorded: September 30, 2026
In our final episode of our series on the Soviet-Finnish Wars (1939-40, 1941-5), Annibale shines a light on Finland's Nazi crimes carried out as Nazi Germany's allies: deadly concentration camps for non-Finns, Finnish Waffen SS, and the little-known Finnish Einsatzkommando that murdered non-Finnish Jews and Communists.
First - We discuss Gulf oil export claims vs realities
At 36:30 - Annibale concludes our Soviet-Finnish Wars series

Whatever the case, the insurance and other fees are so massive that 100% crude exiting Hormuz would still be unsustainable

SPI wargames!!! Speaking of tasteless simulations I used to have a copy of their “Sinai: The Arab-Israeli War” game 🤪😅 Never played it…. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinai:_The_Arab-Israeli_Wars
It's quite good actually, even if not as good as "Yom Kippur" from the defunct publisher The Gamers
Al Jazeera has an editorial today that speculates from a few sources like Kepler that Iran is charging a secret toll to allow ships to pass. Very much possible with the money that gulf states have sent recently to not be hit. I think this is good tactics but maybe not the best strategy. Trump and the US can now say- well we got the oil back! But simply filling the coffers back up and getting ready for round 2 or 3 or (30 going to the revolution) of attacks maybe the play by Iran here. Survive long enough to wait out Trump.

Loved the analysis of oil flow in ME. Does anyone know if the houthis are still letting Chinese tankers thru? Or have they shut down all Saudi oil and that’s why China is paying $130/barrel and stocking up? Also why is China stocking up?? What do they know lol Lastly - Aniballe any sources to back up the belief that Churchill was closer to Stalin than Roosevelt was? Have not come across that before
- Fraser J. Harbutt, Yalta 1945: Europe and America at the Crossroads (Cambridge University Press, 2010; pbk 2014) - David Reynolds, In Command of History: Churchill Fighting and Writing the Second World War (Allen Lane, 2004) - David Reynolds e Vladimir Pechatnov (eds), The Kremlin Letters: Stalin's Wartime Correspondence with Churchill and Roosevelt (Yale University Press, 2018
I'm equally as interested in Annibale's analysis of global politics and economics, as I am for the topic he's brought to discus
Great tune! Stalin Wasn’t Stallin’ https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EI3u80z1qKo
I get that they had it before but keeping the swastika straight through the present day is certainly a choice that invites a certain scrutiny
