I know I am commenting a little late, but just got around to listening to this episode and it was great. I feel guilty I don't give the Ukraine War the attention it deserves and this episode was a great way to get up to speed. Peter Korotaev is always a great guest.
Audio freaks should not be allowed to listen to podcasts. Ooh is the recording a widdle scratchy. Do you hear vocal fry? Grow up!
Excellent guest as usual. Peter Tokaev’s Substack is really good. He is a very intelligent and interesting person. Ben Aris is a puzzle though. Seems to know his trade movement stuff but just spouts msm propaganda on Ukraine.
Aris doesn't really follow military developments that critically and is situated within the business press. Like all of us, he probably has sources he follows and trusts, and in the case of Ukraine almost all respectable media has been remarkably disciplined in presenting a certain view of things, to the point that a normally calibrated bullshit filter would simply be overwhelmed (especially coupled with the alt-media types generally getting it wrong on whether there would be an invasion). When it comes to his own specialty, of course, he knows what to look for and is more capable of forming his own qualified opinions. I also get the sense that he just doesn't have a particularly solid grasp on or interest in the military part of war, which makes being critical even more difficult.
Soporific. Hey I know Korotaev and Cyrus are great guests, uniquely well informed and all, but their voices! They both put me to sleep. Come on boys spice it up, after all this is the Theatre of the Absurd (war).
Mark: I don't mean to make a Nazi amalogy here. Ukranians: Have you noticed our caps have skulls on them? I hope Peter disabused to a degree John and Mark from the military nonsense recently presented by Ben Aris. Consider doing a bakeoff, "Ben vs. Peter: drones and losses in Ukraine."
While it won’t eliminate ticks altogether, putting corn cob powder rodenticide along the edge of your yard should help check the mouse populations that keep the tick population there in a state of constant explosion. Shouldn’t harm your cats or dog
Really can’t recommend events in ukraine enough. I feel like I would have no real understanding of the ukraine war if it weren’t for eir
Second that. Excellent source.
Enjoyed listening to this imagining Peter hiding under a bed the entire episode
Using life insurance policies to underwrite stock bets is how Warren Buffett became so wealthy. https://xcancel.com/MarkAmesExiled/status/2039724396844048433#m
Why is bro whispering is Zelenskyy going to hear him if he speaks up
Is he sick and/or tired? (of all the bullshit like the rest of us).
the end was always going to be the same , just a question of a few details and several thousand more battlefield casualties
I saw a drone implement video just a few hours ago and immediately thought of Ben Aris saying that drone technology was "evolving". It also made me think of Code of the Life-Maker, let's hope they don't evolve that much!
A great book! I think about it quite a lot more than I’d expect for a random paperback I grabbed at a goodwill over a decade ago
Parrot = high maintenance dinosaur
no diss to Mark but bird pets is absolute sicko mode lmao. Like a fish minus all the convenience
Great ep, thanks for bringing this front back into focus.
I remember when the Ukraine war started the German soccer league started painting peace signs into the center circle. They haven’t done that in years. Honestly they probably stopped when Gaza started so that no one got confused.
It’s funny how NATO strategy for Ukraine was originally this stay-behind insurgency model based on the NATO model based on the Nazi SS model. AND IT DOES NOT WORK. IT NEVER WORKED. And what makes it even funnier is that the same geniuses have so spectacularly failed at counterinsurgency when they can’t use the Malay/Jakarta method of just killing everyone. I think it means that organic insurgency works and professionals don’t because professionals have something to lose and are fighting for nothing more than a paycheck or a very fleeting promise of power when the cavalry arrives to actually fight and take back the area.
They used a insurgency model because thy thought Russia was going to do a US Desert Storm type invasion
In early 2022 I never would have thought I'd be seeing drone feeds of drones ripping out the spine of other drones like Predator.
I’ve read that guinea fowl are preferable to chickens for insect control.
Sorry if you’ve already heard this tick control tip, but beneficial nematodes could help control ticks and other pests. We have had some success controlling fleas in an outdoor pin for my dog.
Never heard of this. What's a beneficial nematode? I used to obsess over parasitical nematodes like the ones that cause river blindness.
Man, Peter’s vocal fry is wild. Thought I was listening to the Red Scare ladies.
My favorite chicken hawks have said we can just bypass Hormuz and have Airborne drop int Kharg like it’s 1944. Meanwhile, there’s a good reason why the U.S. hasn’t performed or been able to perform a combat drop since 1945. More importantly is that the wildest dreams of North Korean or (insert enemy du jour) censorship are nothing compared to how fast and hard social media will shut down feeds the second the first time 4K video of an Iranian FPV flying up an American trooper’s ass makes its way to Twitter or Telegram. The world will be reminded immediately and brutally that the U.S. government controls the Internet and will shut it all down if it wants.
No one is paying attention. For almost everyone, media and Internet censorship is water to fish.
The vocal fry on this guy makes this almost unlistenable
No one made you listen to this.
We have some big coyotes out here (I'm convinced they're part wolf) so we can't keep chickens without having a large working dog to scare them off. A friend had been in a rough housing situation, so the wife and I had invited her to crash with us while she got back on her feet. She brought 2 dozen fowl, a small rascal dog, and a massive dog who kept the front yard free from predation. Was glad when she found a new living situation....but kinda miss the birds!
Get guinea fowl
