Radio War Nerd #91—Recovered History of July 4 1776, feat. William Hogeland

Guest: William Hogeland, historian & author

A special July 4th episode, the War Nerd recovers the lost history of how the Declaration of Independence came about with  historian William Hogeland (guest on RWN EP #63 and RWN EP #85), author of Declaration: The Nine Tumultuous Weeks When America Became Independent. In this telling, the American War for Independence is partly a typical insurgency, but unique in that the British were unusually soft on the colonists . . . We learn about the armed, populist working-class  coup in Pennsylvania that made the Declaration of Independence possible, and their unusual alliance with the scary elitist Adams brothers . . .

Afterwards, Ames & the Nerd discuss the Iraqi victory in Mosul, Seymour Hersh's new article on the alleged sarin attack in Syria, and Al Shabaab's split. . .

Total Time: 2:24:40
